Our next major update is here — and it’s got glass in it. Yep, that glass. Non-solid, lowercase-G glass. It works right out of the box (as all glass should?) but you can also tweak every parameter. It’s a lot of fun. And that’s not all! ↓

who at WhatsApp thought it was a good idea to start a voice chat by scrolling down when at the bottom of the chat what a silly interaction, but I'm sure the metrics on new voice chats will be great

now in beta: 🫨 progressive blur 🔍 liquid glass 🎯 concentric corners

That glass you’ve all been talking about? It’s available now in our latest beta. Take it for a spin and let us know what you think! And that’s not all… 🧵↓

In today’s @sketch.com update, we’ve added Frame as a container type, which is a long overdue no-brainer — but we’ve also added a Graphic container. Graphics aren’t the standout in this update, but to me they’re the most interesting story to tell. So, here’s why graphics exist 🧵

bonus: figured it’d be fun to share this internal doc I wrote early last year, long before we’d started building frames — stuff takes time to brew

We didn’t just want to flip that around — as we designed frames purposely for interface work, it was very important for us to give icon designers a space to work in, unencumbered by what makes frames, well, frames. That’s what graphics are: a container for doing graphical work.

In practice: • Frames “give” sizing and pinning properties (and defaults) to their contents, and adjust them when resized based on those props. • Graphics have none of that, they simply resize proportionally. Each creates a context and environment that suits its type of work.

In today’s @sketch.com update, we’ve added Frame as a container type, which is a long overdue no-brainer — but we’ve also added a Graphic container. Graphics aren’t the standout in this update, but to me they’re the most interesting story to tell. So, here’s why graphics exist 🧵

Our goal is for *interface work* and *graphical work* (icon, illustration) to both feel like first-class citizens — but their mechanics are quite distinct. Contrary to what you’d expect, Sketch has always favored graphical work, due to its roots as a general-purpose vector tool.

a lot of people are saying nobody’s ever been this back

I think the EU should too force Twitter to sell to an EU owner or else be banned in the union after all, it’s owned by an official of a foreign extremist government, who’s meddling in EU elections

it says a lot about an industry if a free and open source alternative to every product on the market can destroy 1 trillion dollars of “value” in one day lol

the portuguese government, who rolled back a great new visual identity commissioned by the previous government for not being patriotic enough, announced a open contest for a new passport design… with a prize of €5000 absolutely fucking embarrassing

what the hell man, i’m never volunteering for a video again

What did we do in 2024? We asked @rafa.design (and a few friends) to show what we shipped… and… well… enjoy!

We’re also working to evolve artboards into what you may know as “frames” — a fixed-size nestable container that’s both style- and layout-capable, for doing interface work. Bit more about that, and why now, over in our forum: forum.sketch.com/t/sneak-peek...

I’ve thought a lot about how Sketch’s roots are that of a tool for graphical work, not interface work — a distinction which runs deep and manifests itself in lots of compromises. We’ve all just adapted and barely notice anymore. To make it better, we need a container primitive for interface work.

Spending a month on Bluesky has created a whole new model of a fight we need to be having right now. Not liberal vs. conservative or whatever, but respect vs manipulation. I am tired of being manipulated everywhere I go. That’s why I like it here, I feel like I’m in charge for once.

where “regulate out of existence” actually means requiring “a dedicated page on their website where it says how many users they have in the EU and where they are legally established” this is just anti-regulation fear mongering, i’m sure the free market “EU bad” tech bros will slurp it right up

you know you are succeeding as a social network when A) Meta is copying you quickly B) the EU is trying to regulate you out of existence www.theverge.com/2024/11/25/2...

got a steam deck oled arriving soon, and I haven’t played PC games in ~15 years (but I do have a switch): what are your favorite non-Nintendo games of the past decade or so?

one of the greatest to ever do it, go follow/hire Janik if you like/need icon design

Decided to use the novel opportunity of having a nice social network and share a selection of icons I've been working on recently. Keep your eyes peeled if you're into that sort of thing.

It might seem like a cop-out to blame capitalism for so many things, but once you look for it, you see how it subverts every sphere of human life. Advance far enough in any field and you’ll become aware of open secrets that things are being done poorly or even dangerously because of profit motive.

verified domains as handles is such a smart idea from bluesky, it helps with both username squatting and verification, while giving people a bit more control over their self-expression and identity in a platform they otherwise don’t control

@pfrazee.com @bsky.app do you have any plans to support shorter profile URLs like "bksy.app/@[handle]"? current /profile/… URLs often get truncated in other services and seeing "bsky.app/profile/usern…" isn’t very helpful/clean
