When I think back to my childhood, with section 28, casual homophobia and the age of consent for same sex relationships being 21 instead of 16, it is depressing to see how little has really changed.

I actually think the use of the word “finally” is so telling as to the role our heavily right-wing media plays in our politics. Sources like The Telegraph have been pushing successive governments for trans-exclusionary policy for years. They’ve got what they wanted. This is now their victory lap.

Time's running out! ⏰ We only have a few weeks before the government have to decide if they will listen to the people and kick Palantir out of the NHS Help us reach 100,000 emails before it's too late ✍️ Act now and if you've already take action, hit share! 💥 https://goodlaw.social/5c4e13

Trump’s a Russian asset, Farage’s party is a racist enterprise, Putin wanted Brexit & if you tried to make a list of all the UK politicians & pundits who’ve backed all three, you’d be here for hours.

OK, there is something very, very weird going on in the press right now. It certainly appears, from the outside, as if certain people are being very much protected in a way that was not afforded to certain other people! Let's start with the facts around Lola Salem... 🧵1/

Trump should have been made a pariah on the political stage already. All the state visits, the handshakes, the attention when he speaks. A man with no credibility or conscience has been able to operate as if these things are normal. We say 'maybe today will be the day' because what else do we have?

Huge respect for Caroline Lucas this week, repeatedly standing up to antisemitic entryism while remaining staunchly critical of Israel and the government's failures on that front. You can see why she used to be leader

You get a great return from most investment in the BBC. It's one of the biggest brands in the world and has a global reputation that is not nearly acknowledged enough. That ppl haven't made a case for it is a scandal

"JK Rowling is already a billionaire and everyone already knows about Harry Potter, what's the point of boycotting?" Nobody thinks boycotting will bankrupt her. We know she's gonna die rich. We're just asking you to show a shred of solidarity with trans folk. Absolute low bar bare minimum shit.

I've pushed the government to end unaffordable rents every day I’ve been an MP, and before then. It's a national scandal that thousands of ordinary people are forced to limit themselves & their life chances just to keep up with sky-high rents. This would be a much-needed reset👇

Zack Polanski@zackpolanski.bsky.social

Time and time again when I'm knocking on doors people tell me they've still got their kids living at home with them. The extreme cost of housing is putting lives on hold across this country. We need an emergency brake on rents. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

On this Peter Oborne column in @bylinetimes.bsky.social September issue, I can certainly 100% agree. The World Tonight and the Midnight news cut by BBC News does feel like a bereavement. Comments on Rajan, and Mishal Hussain - yes, quite right. BBC, beloved, but heading in the wrong direction.

This is not a "Community Safety Event" This is a gathering of racist haters at an asylum seeker hotel, and no amount of flagged-up AI slop can conceal that truth.

And last weekend we had white supremacists on the streets of *checks notes* affluent Sutton Coldfield, parading along, shouting Nazi words. The anti-immigrant rhetoric and policies of the current Labour government is encouraging these rotters. It has to end.

The mental gymnastics required to pretend Elon Musk is not a fascist who has actively transformed the platform he owns to reflect his ideology are quite incredible. If you're still there, you're just saying this is OK.

I would like our Government to be outlawing, vociferously speaking out against and ruthlessly prosecuting members of what is clearly a paramilitary fascist organisation.

There is no middle ground with the kind of people who attack the RNLI. We don’t need to ‘listen’ to them. We need to tell them where to go.

Paul Hibbert reposted

Hundreds of people have been arrested and accused of terrorism offences for holding signs saying they support Palestine Action. But apparently this organised campaign to literally terrorise lifeboat crews and endanger lives isn't terrorism?

Emma Yeomans@yeomans.bsky.social

The RNLI has said the abuse of volunteers in Portsmouth has forced it to close the lifeboat station there and stop operating since September 10. Nearby stations have been providing cover to the area instead. One of the UK's largest coastal cities without a lifeboat because of the far-right.

Let’s be clear. Labour’s line on immigration is that immigrants are a bad thing, to be tolerated in the minimum number necessary for the NHS, the economy and so forth, but basically and essentially bad. There’s no other logical reason possible for Mahmood’s approach, endorsed by Burnham.

people on here might have missed this but just an FYI that Jeremy Vine is now DMing random disabled people and carers on Twitter to throw his weight around and try and silence the critique of his show, which is at best imo pathetic & at worst a huge abuse of his power & status as a celebrity figure

As I board the ferry from Tallinn to Helsinki, I’m reminded yet again of three things about the EU: 1) You don’t sacrifice any of your national identity or culture by being part of the EU. Estonia remains Estonia. Finland remains Finland 2) Schengen is great. 3) Brexit was and is shit.

Really? Is that it? If this is all that’s come from COBR, it’s pitifully inadequate. As crisis deepens, it beggars belief that there aren’t eg plans to increase resources for the fire service, support for farmers, max workplace temperature, funded community cool spaces & obvs ban on new fossil fuels

Starmer was essential to the far right. Instead of fighting them he said they had 'reasonable concerns' and that flags intended to intimidate immigrants were good. By continuing his racist and transphobic policies Burnham showed his determination to fail in the same way on day one.
