Television! I've been using it since the release last week and I think they are onto something. Think of it as a durable surface for your artifacts. The graphical interface for your text only agents.

Rupert Manfredi@ruperts.world

Television 1.5 gives each artifact its own little data store, that agents can post and subscribe to. This means all your artifacts are natively interactive — and TV feels a little less like a window manager, and a little more like a computer.

The Atmosphere should be sold as a Community Garden. Plant your Lexicon tomatoes. Have your neighbor plant their own tomatoes using the infrastructure you planted. Grow the garden, communally. Reap benefits of the growth of the garden. Continue giving back.

Jacob Pfeifer reposted

The Atmosphere is a new open network of apps and services that all work together. It's like truly owning your Google Account. Instead of every app being its own walled garden, Atmosphere apps share a common foundation, so you only need one account to use them all, and they can easily share data.

After thinking about this question all weekend, I think my favorite candidate is the alchemical symbol for air: 🜁 It’s connotes both atmosphere and “transfer”. It’s a standard Unicode character. It references a capital “A.” And it’s very simple, which feels appropriate for a protocol, like 🌐 or 🛜.

In some ways, atproto, bluesky, @semble.so, @sill.social, @standard.site and so on are building new indexes for the web. I really hope atproto succeeds and goes fully mainstream. Think of the amazing search engines that can be built on such rich index data. Maybe web3 can actually happen.

I just switched to blacksky a few hours ago and I want to thank the designer for making the blacksky url a perfect explanation of what the post is trying to explain lol. blacksky.community /profile:did:[uuid for atmosphere idenity] /post/[uuid for post] *universally unique identifier

i think this maybe deserves a blogpost. atproto is a protocol for publishing and aggregating JSON with links. “accidentally” this happens to be enough for many types for social apps

Maybe this is why everyone is having so much trouble figuring out what to call "sign in with your atmosphere id" Maybe in the atmosphere you shouldn't have a "profile" page you should have an "identity" page.

(I think many people struggle to understand atproto because start from the misconception that atproto is a social networking protocol. But atproto does not understand follows or likes or posts. It's a publishing and syndication protocol designed to make it easy to build social things on top of it.)

Desperately, DESPERATELY want to see a packaging system for "i have an application, it uses web ui tech, i want to ship it to desktop, but it DOES NOT WANT a localhost socket" that developers can pick up and run with easily. Jesus that AI song thing Suno is scary, like feeling the same feeling I did when like GPT first came out. Man. The culture is just really not ready for what's coming. Like I could 100% see in ten years that kids don't have favorite artists anymore because every song they listen to is made for them

A while back, Andrej Karpathy said the app store will be replaced by generated, disposable software," and Amjad Masad predicted that the value of all application software will go to zero I think this "ephemeral software hypothesis" is wrong, though, and I want to explain why:

Cat points out a real problem. Rather than “everyone builds their own custom app” with all the overhead that entails, my working hypothesis is that we’ll see an explosion of what @inkandswitch.com calls malleable software www.inkandswitch.com/essay/mallea... A solid core + ability to extend

Loam Substrate started feeling too big for markdown files so I'm experimenting with Linear as the source of truth for the project. I've only been using it for a few hours but I understand why so people speak so highly of it.

Love what Hank is saying here about algorithmic social media. We are already living in a world where people trust AI output without rigorous fact checking. We have been for a while now.

Hank Green@hankgreen.bsky.social

If you ever get the chance to go on Decoder with @reckless.bsky.social be careful, he makes you say all of your opinions even if you would rather not!!

Maybe "rigorous fact checking" isn't quite right. More like "rigorous interrogation" It won't be like this forever. But it won't change until we build something better to replace it.
