If you need to catch up on the whole controversy with GOP Sen. Eric Schmitt not knowing his sports and embarrassing himself while attempting to slander a public servant today, I made a 20 min. video explainer. Yes, 20 minutes. And I enjoyed the hell out of making it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=YfjN...

🤡 Schmitt beclowns himself 🤡 Schmitt concocted an elaborate conspiracy theory that Smith traveled to Atl for a Hawks game and to collude with Fani Willis, & flashed his "evidence" before accusing Smith of perjury. There's just one problem -- his facts were totally wrong. Here's the whole sequence:

Lots of "I hope someone tells these proles to turn off their phones and not talk through the performance" commentary in response to NYC's Met ticket giveaway, as if theaters aren't already overrun with people who pay hundreds of dollars to leave their phones on and talk through performances.

Everyone complaining about rain and flooding from the Nor'easter and sharks in the water, but is no one bothered by the chilly, clammy weather? Was in the 90s not long ago and it's struggling to get into the 60s. Still a few days out from Heating Season in NYC, so long underwear is back in style.

Had a little adventure with Seamless Web and AI last night. I know, First World problems. Anyway, I received someone else's dinner and I'm pretty sure that person received mine. I contacted Seamless's Help and they issued a refund. Here's where the story takes an interesting turn. 1/

Finally start to eat the pasta. Onions don't agree with me and I don't agree with them. A meal can turn into a search and destroy mission whenever I see fragments of them in my food. So I spot a piece that's a bit larger, like a slice. Then I notice that this slice has a somewhat unnatural gleam. 4/

I carefully extract the slice and wipe it off. It doesn't break. It takes a moment to realize it's a thin, flat, translucent piece of plastic about an inch long. I start to wonder what would have happened if I had accidentally swallowed it. Do I complain to the restaurant or let it go? 5/

The only thing Seamless's AI auto-responses were concerned about was the fact that a refund had been issued. Was trying to be an honest person in this low trust society but there was nothing I could tell the AI, including asking for a representative, to elicit a response other than refund issued. 3/

About five minutes later my doorbell rings and it's the delivery person asking for the wrong order back and telling me he'll return shortly with my order, which he did. I then contacted Seamless to tell them to cancel the refund, that I now had the correct order thanks to my delivery person. 2/

I do think “every rich person went insane during covid because it was the first time they’ve been inconvenienced in decades” felt a little reductive at first but damn if isn’t more and more compelling as the years drag on

A small correction of my Alt description is needed. The bunny is made from one Cinnabun, not two. Approximately half an inch is sliced off the bottom of the Cinnabun to create the bunny's ears. The rest of the Alt description still stands. I apologize if this has caused any confusion.

After a careful analysis of the picture on Seamless, it became readily apparent that the bunny's ears were too thin to have been created using an entire Cinnabun. Since the ears look like the bottom of the Cinnabun, I concluded that the bottom was sliced off the single Cinnabun.

Good morning Bluesky ☀️ My grandad told me he saw the Titanic - from the outset he warned all the people that the ship would sink, but nobody listened to him. He knew he was right and didn't give up. He warned them again & again, until eventually they kicked him out of the cinema.

I was one of the voters; I think about half of my choices made it. Some great/good books here, a few bad ones, and a few that I would disqualify on genre grounds (sorry, Donna Tartt, Mick Herron, and John Le Carre). But overall, this will prompt a lot of fun reading! www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

There is a lot to say about the Nolan Odyssey movie. But one point that I think has not been emphasized enough is: this is a film about living in LA, as Nolan, my erstwhile British compatriot and age mate, has done for years. I gather it’s a strange place.
