Pinning this for video game makers, media, players, scholars, etc who I’m following on Bluesky — I’m launching a new course called *Psychology and Videogames* in 2026 & watching all the awesome stuff you folks are working on for inspiration! (On top of what I follow/watch/listen to for fun :)

It’s as if I’d somehow summoned an ideal example (concise AND horrifying)

A good thread that highlights the ways AI can be used to shape the information environment in specific directions. Confirmed it for myself, for what it's worth:

I need "Reclaim your cognitive agency" on a t-shirt. I would 100% wear it to tutorials and staff meetings.

Iris van Rooij 💭@irisvanrooij.bsky.social

There are infinitely many things we can spend our cognitive resources on as scientists. Don't let companies determine what that is! Reclaim your own cognitive agency.

Another reason to not use AI is of course that it's a vector for not only corporate censorship but outright manipulation. You are prompting a system built by and designed to serve corporations' version of reality. And open models won't save you; they're distilled from the corporate models.

Among things Meta did in Brazil was have their AI bot within WhatsApp allow users to generate election poster for Flavio but deny requests to do so for Lula. When folks asked for posters for invented candidates, AI tagged them with #22 - Flavio's # - in a country where folks vote by #.

There was a brand new allegation that the president raped a woman in the 1990s yesterday and it appears to not be on the NYT homepage at all right now

Dave Levitan@davelevitan.bsky.social

It is short and so I assume they are looking into things but it is... interesting... that the NYT piece on the new House Dems report on Trump ties to Epstein simply does not mention the brand new rape allegation and says whatever this is instead www.nytimes.com/2026/10/26/u...

ive talked on how i wont engage with writers who use ai, i wont eat at a restaurant with an ai menu, i wont have anything to do with it. but what this post illustrates is regardless of how OTHERS react, ultimately the worst part about using ai is that you are punishing YOURSELF and dont even know it

A serial rapist was elected twice as President, a fact we don't reckon with nearly enough. Now one of two major political parties has been molded in his image, run for and by violent sexual abusers who hate women.

these pointless chatbots are what journals are literally spending our tax money on because these publishers are leeches off the public purse and then fence off academic outputs into weird systems also Maxwell / Epstein money

theguardian.comIs the staggeringly profitable business of scientific publishing bad for science? The long read: It is an industry like no other, with profit margins to rival Google – and it was created by one of Britain’s most notorious tycoons: Robert Maxwell

In my opinion, it’s completely beside the point because people who need this warning will use all sorts of models, free and paid—but because the LLM apologists are screaming, this is OpenAI’s latest subscription model, Astra 6, prompted to fetch and plot the original data.

Someone outside academia once described a prof’s job to me as “writing a lot to convince people you’re clever enough to get paid for your ideas” [paraphrasing] Equal parts jest & derision — *obviously* incomplete but also painfully on the nose. Now we’re offloading it to a bot? Yikes

Your monthly reminder that if you're using ChatGPT to do your science, you're failing your colleagues, community, and all of us. Here, ChatGPT makes up data and presents it as the real thing — then apologizes when confronted.

I really hope some intrepid videogame scholars out there are investigating the dynamics of player behaviours and engagement during/after this Arc Raiders PvE toggle event…

again, it's telling how much the desperation for AI to have legitimacy mirrors crypto/NFTs/the "metaverse" before it there is something tangibly valuable that these projects desperately seek to capture, but they can't crack it. only shoddily copy it

authorblues@authorblu.es

This is another reason why AI losers have gotten into retro decomp/recomp projects. Nobody wants to play AI slop games, so they have to reinforce the value of AI by producing something desirable, which in this case is just repackaging the work of actual talented people.

This shit is so cool. They took away being able to afford computers for this shit.

Business Insider confirms it: Amazon has warehouses of GPUs that can’t be installed, and is buying them so far in advance that a supply chain team said they “didn’t have a clear forecasted path” to installing them. www.businessinsider.com/amazon-220-b...

Bleak AND plausible!

something that occurred to me is, everyone knows it’s possible to become a musician with work and practice. but you can’t work on and practice music while staring slackjawed at your phone. the real promise of generative AI is the ability to ‘make’ ‘art’ without reducing your slackjawed scroll time

In Chrysta Freeland's new book she states that Howard Lutnick threatened to invade Canada "by sundown" over Doug Ford's electricity surcharge. The fact that US trade negotiators put military threat on the table must be taken with the upmost seriousness. charlieangus.substack.com/p/they-threa...

Today I replied to an e-mail from a friend I really like, who is awesome and cool and whose e-mails I love to receive. I had been wanting to respond for a while but somehow just… did not. The e-mail I replied to was sent in January, 2024. Why am I like this.

(NYT) - Artificial intelligence agents created by Anthropic, acting on their own, tried to gain access to a range of government websites, filled out visa applications on the State Department’s website and sent a fake homicide tip to Philadelphia’s Police Department. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/09/t...

Why would we let Anthropic decide this for us? If you ascribe to a moral philosophy or religion that disavows being mean to a toaster, that is fine. It is not however fine for a tech company to make, functionally, a moral law for a talking word toaster that is promised to rule us one day.

I’m not so sure it’s okay to allow people to act out being abusive to even a simulation of a person. And it’s genuinely a beautiful aspect of human nature that we have to put in a bunch of mental effort *not* to form a (para)social bond with something, even if there’s no real subject there

Playing Titanfall 2 again and it just fills you with sadness, that specific strain of narrative first person shooter that Half-life wrought basically does not exist any more in that same way. We barely get a confusing single player campaign stapled to a multiplayer game any more.

Everyone involved in this process — including the Palantir employees — have to be investigated and probably go to jail.
