I have done a lot of volunteer work in and every single bit of it was because I wanted to and not because somebody tried to impose it on me and I think the reason it went that way is at least two fold since I am both male and white and also that I am not well known by any segment of the populace.
I didn't even make the social media post you are tweaking out on, Beth Anne. How do you think this free school you're requesting is going to work, exactly? The audacity, I tell you what.

The word of the day is lymphoma which has apparently migrated to my brain and taken up residence there. The good news is that it is somewhat treatable so maybe I will be around long enough to write a detailed account of this whole experience or maybe I just won’t feel like doing that
One thing is clear and that is that hospitals suck even very good ones like this one and believe me I think I’m getting excellent care but it’s still sucks

A very brief note to the very small number of people with whom I occasionally interact here: I am hospitalized with some sort of a weird lesion on my brain and no clear diagnosis yet. When this is over, you will either never hear from me again or I will post a more detailed account.
This is so sad. Americans don’t know what they’ve got ’til it’s gone.
it sucks aside from my own sadness about what it might mean for our store, i'm also just heartbroken that this business that makes physical things is going under after 137 years (like 99% of that time under the same family's stewardship too). just a massive loss all around

there may be much learned about the Universe and our place in it, by way of close study of Lunar soil. To me a SETI breakthrough seems less likely than a breakthrough in Astrophysics or Cosmology or adjacent
🔬🌕 The next breakthrough in SETI may come not from a radio telescope, but from a microscope. Researchers propose searching lunar soil for microscopic engineered particles—potential traces of technologies that could have existed billions of years ago. 🧪 🔭
all making sense now. plus Theil’s fascination with feudalism or at least the BT
“Elon Musk destroyed USAID as a mechanism for killing off as many of the global poor and non-white as he can before they kill him first (as he, insanely, believes)” is not a conspiracy theory. In truth, it’s very hard to conclude anything else.

Probably it was a station-by-station decision (or lack of one) from the feeds. I was in my mid-fifties, watching in a YMCA men’s lounge in Burlington, VT. I remember thinking about those falling poeple and trying to grasp what I was seeing.
It aired in the US. We had moved to Hawaii three or four months earlier. My brother, who was working in midtown, called me and told me to turn on the TV. I said "what channel." He said "any" and then the call was cut off. I turned on the TV and almost immediately saw people falling.

This belatedly explains so much to me. The “nonverbal communication” thing hit the campus of my alma mater in 1968 when the campus chaplain, also a psychology prof, started holding workshops about it. I met my (still) wife at one, where we were paired off to try to nonverbally communicate.
Let's do some light scholarship on this claim: "90% of communication is non-verbal" It's based on two published studies: Mehrabian & Wiener, 1967 Mehrabian & Ferris, 1967 And it's better expressed as the 55/38/7 formula: 55% body language 38% tone of voice 7% words spoken. I'll explain.

This is a very important thread.
This is really dangerous. On the one hand, OF COURSE Trump is doing unconscionable things. On the other, the idea that politicians decide policy and military leaders advise them on what’s possible militarily, and what a given option will cost , exists for a reason. www.nytimes.com/2026/09/01/o...

excellent thread, explanatory for us who do not know this stuff.
One further thing: it’s useful to think of bonds as “just debt”. But US Treasuries have another function: they are widely seen as safe and liquid. Safe: the Treasury will not default. (Also: inflation will not nibble away at their value. This is in question now.)
