Like many pulp action books, the cover is better than the content. This account will document my #pulp and pulp-adjacent #paperback novel collection and more.

Mark Martinez has a fine Web page devoted to the STAR TREK art of the great illustrator James "The Man Who Tore Doc Savage's Shirt 62 Times" Bama. Martinez offers a few clues as to the reference photos Bama might have been using. www.startrekcomics.info/art/bama.html

James Bama's painting, originally done for NBC to promote the new series, teaches us that three flames come out of the ENTERPRISE's rear fuselage and its two warp nacelles. Because how else would Mr Bama convey to a newspaper reader that this odd-looking vessel was supposed to be a spaceship?

It’s been a weird summer and lots distracting me from posting photos of books here. But I’ve re-upped my stash of books and spent the day taking some new photos. Soon, I’ll be back at it.

Summer has been busy for me so I’ve not been devoting as much time to this account lately, but I’ve got a little special series this week showing off four post cards featuring Michael Gillette’s artwork used on James Bond novels. I wish I had all of these books but they are pricey now.

HIGH COUCH OF SILISTRA Cover art by Boris Vallejo. Part 1 of 4 of the Silistra Quartet. This is the only one I own from the series, but it’s a fascinating series so I intend to track down the rest someday.

Today's the 100th anniversary of the birth of prolific artist James Bama! His over 60 Doc Savage covers were a prime reason for the popularity of the Bantam Books reprints. #docsavage #pulp #adventure #artist #art #paperback
