On my 30 min cycle home in the rain on a gloomy evening I saw 1 car with no lights on, 2 without rear lights, and 1 with malfunctioning lights. The smarter ones among you won't need me to spell out what I'm getting at here.

When you don't want to take part in the world for a day the single life seems very desirable - to not be found out and to be yourself. I get very tired of acting out in order to hide my weakness and appear acceptable.

As someone who has a genuine fear of dogs I’m finding my options for dining out away from them are becoming increasingly limited. I’ve always expected dogs in pubs, but if I’m paying more money in a restaurant I want to feel at ease.

No bike lane ever “forced” a single driver out of their car, but lack of safe bike infrastructure has literally forced people to stop biking.

This post is unavailable.

This week I’ve already had 2 drivers honk their horns at me just because I didn’t get out of their way & held my position in the lane to ensure my safety. (I was trying to prevent a close pass/avoiding the door zone). Their journeys were clearly more important than mine. In one instance 1/2

I could see a child approaching from the opposite direction, and as we were on a narrow road I wanted to deter the driver from overtaking me into the child’s path. This was unreasonable according to the driver who I caught up with at the lights. Neither driver would’ve got any further if I’d moved.

If I worked on a factory floor operating a bandsaw I’d use a guard. I wouldn’t expect all other workers to wear protective armour so that I could use my saw without a guard. We need to start putting the onus for safety on the ones who cause the danger.

Where to start with this? “She also advised cyclists not to stop behind large diesel lorries and avoid riding in peak hours - but it was far better to switch to a less busy route instead.” Surely the answer is to reduce traffic and so the particulate load, not rely on PPE? @greenlibdems.org.uk

I’m in the UK. The only thing I hate about cycling to work when it’s pissing down is that drivers act as though it’s them who are getting wet. They are more impatient, more agitated, and therefore more dangerous. If the infrastructure kept me away from them I’d have no qualms about the bad weather.

100 years ago today: A cyclist replies to a motorist's complaint that cyclists don't pay road tax and cycle two or more abreast, holding up drivers. How things have changed.

Can you also discount the costs of buying ecargobikes, whilst providing adequate funding for cycling infrastructure and public transport, at the same time?

Low with Covid. A colleague told me that it’s “replaced the common cold”, implying that I’m making a fuss. Tell that to my nausea, achy body, chills, hot flushes & fatigue. She also told me that I don’t have to take a test. I KNOW that! I had one tucked in the bathroom cabinet & was curious. Grr

I took this in while working in Riga Latvia years ago. A busy arterial road cutting off the downtown from the waterfront, and this is the way to get to the water for pedestrians. On the one hand, at least they have a “connection”…on the other hand it turns pedestrians into mole people. #WarOnWalking

Don’t buy the lie about a war on cars. They’ve been waging a WAR ON WALKING for a century. #UrbanTruth #WarOnWalking

Good luck to all non-drivers trying to get to work today. The parents are back on the road transporting their precious cargo to school, but to some of them the rest of you will be expendable.

On the one hand, some people want to make it so that kids and other people aren't crushed to death by cars. On the other hand, some people are upset that they might have to pay attention, slow down or be inconvenienced by about 15 seconds. So you can see how it's a "war on cars."

There's enough drivers on the UK's roads. It should be 'one out, one in'. Maximum driving age of 75. As the OAPs get pruned off the top, new drivers are let in. Numbers remain just about manageable. Public transport & cycling get boosted. Helps carbon targets. Sanity maintained.

Apart from that time Rory left the tap running for a couple of minutes, our local data centre uses very little water, but it does offer exceptionally accurate information and well-written, original literature. It's also free for everyone.

If you need a quick injection of happiness go and wave at people on a steam train. It’s sheer joy watching the old and young having a small but uplifting interaction with another human being. Makes me tearful.

You'll enjoy a real painting by a local artist much more than a print of a painting by a famous one. And you'll have absolutely made their day/week/month.

Half of the country is in "exceptionally serious drought" - putting us at more risk of wildfires and threatening our food security. Meanwhile water companies are wasting a staggering 2.87 billion litres of water every day through leaky pipes. Time to end water privatisation.

Just loving how John Cleese, now reduced to one of his own caricatures, rages about immigrants coming to the UK and failing to accept "our" culture, from his home in ... (checks notes) ... Nevis in the Caribbean.

Things that should be fucking illegal: 1. Fake grass. 2. SUVs. 3. Having your phone on loud speaker in public. 4. Foil balloons that take hundreds of years to breakdown. 5. Releasing helium balloons at a funeral. 6. Sneezing into your hands and carrying on as normal.

When you're opposing local care facilities that will improve Children's lives because you need somewhere to store your private property, you are in fact the bad guy.

As The War with Cars made the point recently. Yes it is basically a necessity to own a car in order to have children. That should be changed. You shouldn't need a car to get to school, the doctor, the shops, playground. These things should be reachable without a private vehicle.

Romeo Kokriatski@vagrantjourno.bsky.social

Honestly with a 9mo without a car, it'd be a logistical nightmare just to make it to his checkups. I feel like a lot of anti-car stuff comes from people who don't have kids tbh

Just ordered one of these. I just love Masato’s doodles!

I have one of these. It makes me feel so summery when I wear it, and the cotton feels so nice. Bargain!

I’ve worked 7.5 hours over my expected 52.5 this week. I’ve also skipped breaks and taken short lunches because there is so much work. I’m hesitant to claim for it because I don’t like costing the NHS more money, but then I think of all the tax dodgers…
