Good thread about a totally regular experience trying to report on tragic events in B.C. (and probably the rest of Canada). Officials here are so accustomed to getting away with offering nearly zero details. It often takes years for a trial or coroners inquest to get worthwhile official accounts.
I’m actually gonna get out of my replies and use this story to highlight something that I haven’t for a while: the complete lack of transparency and communication from our public agencies in B.C./Canada. So here’s a thread

This is a cool account for 'on this day' in 1980 updates from Mount St. Helens. 45th anniversary of the eruption is Sunday, May 18.
The volcano is hidden, but its presence is still felt over the lake, the lodge, and the two men. Silence screams. Nelson, aware of St. Helens's danger, pleads with Truman, but to no avail. Back into the truck, gun the motor back to safety. KGW cameras later recorded Truman—the last footage of him.
@tephrabird.bsky.social Hi, Britta — I'm still trying to connect to discuss Mount St. Helens with you. Please give me a call or email back at your earliest convenience. Thanks :)
