I resigned from ExxonMobil today. I spent the last three years doing fossil fuel extraction research at both BP and ExxonMobil. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing to maximize extraction while the window to act closes, and gambling with our lives. More below.

Like, a lot of us right now have a prior assumption that "AI is driving water shortages." And no, it absolutely tf is not. It's agriculture. It's always been agriculture. Most of us have spent our whole lives not seeing it. We need to stop that ag water blindness before it screws us all over.

So Richard Tice, should farmers just "enjoy" low crop yields? Should the thousands who've died from the heatwaves just "enjoy" their premature deaths? What about the families whose homes have burned down in the wildfires? Charlatans with their heads in the sand. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

this is why I find climate dooming so frustrating there is no point - none - at which throwing up your hands and going “well we’re fucked” is the correct response every tenth of a degree matters and can make a big difference and is worth fighting for

Well said. It's also worth pointing out that even if we do miss the 2c target, hitting 2.1 is still better than 2.3. Climate tipping points are not all or nothing, there are multiple tipping points at different temperatures.

The global food system is systemically fragile in the same way that the global financial system was before the 2008 crash. If it goes it down, we’re looking, as complex societies, at a potential termination event. This week's column. Please read it. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

theguardian.comWe’re letting big corporations gamble with our lives. Act now, or the food could run out | George MonbiotThe fragility of the global food system fills me with dread – and the war with Iran has exposed just how close to collapse it is, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

i may have successfully flashed a bios with a probe! at least, the chassis intrusion detection lights are flashing, and i'd disabled those on the previous BIOS. have to wait until the CMOS battery recharges, now... and might have to put it into a chassis to change the BIOS settings again >.>

systems design interviews are kind of the only time I get to do design thinking, because my job is just pushing whatever garbage horizontal management has produced today it's so much fun, actually. I haven't been to many conferences, but if the energy is like this, I absolutely see the appeal

i’m not going to accept any statement on the “steep environmental cost” of air conditioning while countries are backtracking on their climate goals to keep powering AI

HEY here's a new piece for @crikey.com.au! Sparked by David Suzuki's recent comments, but more broadly in response to the recent rise of performative fatalism: the reassuring, widely popular and lazy idea that fighting back against fossil fuels is worthless www.crikey.com.au/2025/07/14/c...

crikey.com.auClimate fatalism is just as wrong as climate denial — it's never 'too late' for changeVeteran environmentalist David Suzuki believes the time has passed us to stop climate change. He's wrong.

Global average temperature is expected to rise to almost 2C above preindustrial in the next five years, according to the WMO, with falls in crop yields and more than a third of the world’s population being exposed to extreme heat. People, I'm sorry but we have to deal with this. Later is too late.

JUST BECAUSE THE CLOWN CAR GOES VERY FAST DOES NOT MEAN IT ISN’T FULL OF CLOWNS

Micah@rincewind.run

the speed at which these guys have broken everything has given a lot of folks who should know better the impression that they are an unstoppable force and the only option is to negotiate the terms of surrender just because the clown car goes very fast does not mean it isn’t full of clowns

You are up to date.
