if you haven't tried alphaxiv.org yet - you should, it's zotero for doomscrolling it's peak

Astra ⎔@astrra.space

@alphaxiv.org is so incredibly cool, i just wish they had ATProto support for SSO (rn it's just google/apple/huggingface), feels like a very good fit

I just analyzed 1.9M recipes and can now report that the yummy simplicial complex is arguably *not* flag. The following flavor trios have far fewer recipes containing all three ingredients than the recipes with pairs of ingredients would predict.

ꭓle Ormsby 𓆙@e-infinity.space

An open problem in culinary mathematics: Consider the 𝑦𝑢𝑚𝑚𝑦 𝑠𝑖𝑚𝑝𝑙𝑖𝑐𝑖𝑎𝑙 𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑝𝑙𝑒𝑥 Y on vertex set I = {ingredients} where σ∈Y iff the ingredients in σ appear in a single good recipe. Question: Is Y a flag simplicial complex? (A complex Y is 𝑓𝑙𝑎𝑔 when σ∈Y iff {x,y}∈Y for all x,y∈σ.)

You love to see it. (for non-tech peope: embedded devices won't usualy support cert revocation, and eMudhra leaked root certs, so reverse engineers can impersonate 'the mothership' to their devices. Expect more of these! 😻)

Three years ago, my dad said that all fish are the same shape. Out of spite, I decided to draw all 478 families of bony fish listed in Nelson 2016. There's still some stuff I need to edit and some fish I want to redraw but, after 985 days, I finished my big dumb fish project last night.

Fun thing! I'm looking at a copy of a book of summaries of Aristotle’s natural philosophy (Naturalis totius philosophiae paraphrases (1538)), and the book has a semi-circle mirror set into the backboard. Has any one seen this elsewhere? What's going on? A device to connect up with the Aristotle?

"While a core developer was fixing one of the issues ...they found the first signs of the deeper problem that became php2shell. An attack was considered theoretically possible, but nobody could build one. Every candidate fix broke something else." How good do you think those Claude patches are?

People yesterday were saying that "never AI purists" were being mean to people using AI to patch. I'm NOT never-AI, I love agentic coding, but I do know vulnerability research and the point is that *you can't write a good patch that fast with anything*—there's a HUGE chance it's making a new 0day.

I guess I was officially (legally) back in Belgium, but I have now had "one or two" local Antwerp beers with the squad and then takeaway fritjes, so I am officially (officially) back in Belgium

I apologise to anyone following me who doesn't know/care about computer security, I will be returning to normal programming at some point but it's almost impossible to describe how entertaining things are right now

thank you emudhra. "My only micro-B cable is bent" -> using leaked certificates to spoof the sony app store to get root on my camera

I win a nerd point! Verg. Aen. 8.45: alba solo recubans, albi circum ubera nati, New Brill commentary, translation: "a white sow reclining alone, and around her teats there will be her young, also white." But scansion says the first 'o' is short (AL ba so LO), it's "on the ground" not sōlō 🤓

The macOS built-in curl, git, pip, python3, perl, ruby, and openssl all read /etc/ssl/cert.pem, which still has the emSign root, but they don't check revocation like Apple's Secure Transport libraries. This is, uh, a problem. git and pip especially. I added a short-term workaround to this page.

it's 0552 in Antwerp and I am awake-by-jetlag and just spent half an hour backsliding by doing a deep dive into the eMudhra thing and a) wow b) LOL and c) hahahahah (also the number 4 is completely irrelevant cryptographically. I say this because 3 *has* been critical in some old RSA disasters)

(the best thing about PHPocalypse is that, historically, there's at least a 20% chance that their patch is going to create a new 0day or unblock a different one ;)

this is a good level of commentary if you're learning about Latin poetic grammar quirks. It doesn't seem to have any snarking at the quality of the verse (very common historically) which is good. Would like more attention to meter, but I am a meter nerd

📝 New in Computational Humanities Research's special issue on computational poetics, ed. by @artjomshl.bsky.social & @nmhouston.bsky.social! For centuries, books that taught people to scan, recite and parse English were stuffed with borrowed lines of poetry. Which poems did they reach for? 🧵

You might naively think this is trochaic octameter. It's not. There is NO SUCH THING, even if some weirdos write two lines per line sometimes (Poe?!) This is tetrameter catalectic in a trenchcoat. Not that each line has a word ending at the 4th foot, and that the central caesura often rhymes!
