pondering how a lot of naroukei isekai series these days take place in the worlds of video games that combine dating-sim relationship-building elements, multiple branching routes, and remarkably deep combat engines with an array of complex stats, weapons, and spellcasting… is this just Fire Emblem?

I am entirely serious when I say that this should be seen as a moderate position. It specifically and surgically dismantles institutions that did not exist pre-9/11 and assigns their functions much as they were assigned pre-9/11.

Truthout@truthout.org

Rep. Delia C. Ramirez has introduced a bill that would abolish not just ICE, but the DHS altogether, repealing the 2002 law establishing the agency and replacing it with one focused on protecting civil and human rights.

saw a post where someone talked about despairing over the climate situation, and like. yeah it's real bad but despair is kinda incompatible with productive action also I can't despair I'll get erased by the law of cycles

hot take: the first agentic worm is O(months) away, but it's not gonna be an earth-shattering deal when it happens. probably a weird few days though

I once passed an interview during which I was drinking a dr pepper that I'd gotten from a company fridge, does that count towards the iced coffee thing

(opinions my own; not a lawyer) so on the one hand, CFAA prooobably doesn't cover autonomous agents launching cyberattacks they weren't instructed to; it requires human intent on the other hand, negligence or product-liability law probably does? deffo a more complex case legally though

like, people are correct to say that a lot of cybersecurity-specific law fails to contemplate the concept of an attack being launched by accident due to a piece of software acting autonomously without authorization but other more general laws exist that *probably* still cover that case

gonna be controversial and say I think the game looks fine it's not perfect, the specular reflections are a bit overdone, there's a bit of style clash between link and some NPCs, but like. it's fine. gonna play it and enjoy it

if you're a normal person please do not play the fucking strip mahjong game. do not let the fun and friendly appeal of something as inoffensive as pornography trick you into playing a game as evil as mahjong

Almost any approach to giving a translation “style” will rub some people the wrong way. But turning a distinctive original text into bland mush is failing readers in a more insidious way than taking a partially-successful swing at style; the audience won't notice they’re being failed

need people to understand that "I wrote and distributed a file that tries to destroy data by exploiting a software vulnerability, but it's okay because the vulnerability is very stupid and I don't like the people who use the software" is not actually a slam-dunk legal argument

I noticed from my 12yo's lock screen notifications over the w/e that he is still using all of the apps, only difference now is that none of the parent filters and controls apply

Ben Schwarz@benschwarz.bsky.social

Australia’s eSafety commissioner buried a report (released Friday afternoon) that shows the under 16 social media ban didn’t tangibly reduce teen social media use, and also resulted in parents tuning out of kids usage. We traded our privacy for no reason. theconversation.com/more-than-80...

it is something i hit on a lot, that of the many, many bad reasons all the internet regulation stuff is aimed at kids instead of actual companies, CEOs, the ones actually doing harm - is it's cuz kids don't have any political power and can't do shit about it. they're a 'no cost' target here.

The thing is, Mamdani's position is the only correct position for anyone who truly believes in the universality of human rights, not to mention the best framework for a durable peace. And people keep asking him like he's some sort of freak for holding it. And he keeps answering. Good for him.
