I have bought a planer (or a plane, it's not the flying kind, unless I get frustrated). And so, consistently with my sawing, I'm able to plane humps and troughs. And yes, as with soldering it's not an overnight success and takes practice, but COME ON (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

We managed to delay yesterday, but sizes do really have to be sent off today - could you please drop us an email at events@leftlogic.com so we can include the correct size for you?

Spent the day seeing reports of PHP vuln and have been (w)racking my brain (because is it rack or wrack…who knows) as to whether any of the WAY TOO MANY services I run has PHP. And yep, right at the end of the night, I finally found the only one. Sod.

80 minutes door to door. PHP upgraded along with OS and the RAM and CPU (_and_ that has been downgraded again, because I don't need that extra capacity). Only because I used an LLM to guide me - there's no way I would have managed (since I also had to fix our mail software at the same time).

shitposts aside, this one is serious, my loves: if you’re just waking up and you have any service online running PHP 5.4 to latest, you need to take it down RIGHT NOW and don’t put it back online until after it’s patched absolutely catastrophic vulnerability dropped in the middle of the night

Any of my friends and acquaintances around Merseyside / the North West want a free C64? It's got the ol' browning colouration, but the cassette deck seems ok. I cannot confirm if it's working or not. Has the PSU and a few cassettes.

Really not likely, but if anyone here follows me has attended #FFConf as a student in the past, I'd love to include a quote from you (I've got a couple of posts, but they're pre-pandemic so I'd love something a bit more recent). Can be a social post or email to events@leftlogic.com

Hi new followers who found me from @ffconf.org 's starter pack! 🥹 I WISH I was going this year, but hopefully I'll be able to make the trip next time. In the meantime, have a fantastic conf. I think it's my favourite.

Two upcoming conferences this November where I will give a talk about how I created CCS DOOM: November 13th - FFConf 🇬🇧 Brighton 2026.ffconf.org November 16th - Halfstack 🇦🇹 HalfStack halfstackconf.com/vienna Both are amazing conferences and have a lovely community. Tickets are still for sale!

I *really* don't understand Music Assistant in Home Assistant. I connected it to Bandcamp expecting it would only play songs I've bought, and now it's streaming songs I've not bought. Nor am I paying for a subscription - so…no idea.

Guys, yes, *just* the guys, watch this. Jo shouldn't have to tell us, but do ask yourself: have you seen this? Have you done this? Can you do better next time? This work should have always been on us. This also *has* to be ongoing, it's not just fixed once. We have to pass it on.

I gave a talk at EMF titled "Men in Tech #YesAllMen", in which I told my experience of being a woman in tech. I was afraid to publish it in case it affected my current or future employment. With all the current news I would like to add my 2¢. So here is the recording: youtu.be/WXL6K1lhvt0?...

FFConf in confusing numbers: - 16th outing - 17th year - 19 events I mean, when I say "it's our Nth edition" what number am I actually picking!!? It's 19 events because we ran the same event twice (Thurs + Fri) for 3 years…

Just smashed my way through The Correspondent (book) in 6 days, so picking my next read. It's down to these two: 1. As You Wake, Break the Shell by Becky Chambers 2. Heavenly Tyrant (Iron Widow, Book 2) by Xiran Jay Zhao Any of you lovely lot leaning one way or the other?

I’m looking to connect with university lecturers and staff. We offer student tickets for @ffconf.org, but they’re easy to miss, and I’d love to give the next generation of web developers the chance to attend a great indie event. If anyone can contact please drop me comment here I can follow up.

website: join our network, it connects people! website hero image: people chatting - almost real except none of the eyelines actually line up. So… connects people, but you couldn't find a photo of the people so you generated one? doesn't read well…

That's to say: if your whole premise is connecting people, it feels a little disingenuous to use a generated image (or even stock photography for that matter).

Quite chuffed with this. Though, only really been able to practice in real life once. Super nervous to "speak" to a deaf person - though the intention was to have a backup because of my own hearing.

I mean, I know I'm not smart (like, book-smart), but I just had my arse handed to me. Turns out there's no past tense to sentient, and it's certainly not sentinel. TIL the meaning of sentinel.

And I wonder where you can see @cydstumpel.nl talk next 🤔 ::cough:: FFConf ::cough:: 🥳 (also heard great things about Dark Mode)

This was such a fun conference, and all the talks were brilliant. Events like this should have 10x the audience.

Me in our newsletter that was about to go out to 1000s of people: "there's no such thing as rouge AI" 🟥 No, no such thing as red AI… 🤦

FOMO over recent conferences? Or even from last year? Join us next month in Brighton for 2026.ffconf.org - join your peers, join the conversations you can't have with your chatbot, join us for 8 amazing talks and one superb day. Get your ticket today, don't FOMO-FFCONF.

I mean, sure, if you put the 10% of women speaking at the nearly 30 strong speakers at the very beginning of the list, we're not going to notice lack of effort in diversity…

Music Assistant users - do you use it with Apple Music as a source? My offline collection is still small by comparison, and when HA looks up songs to play (like Wet Leg), it'll either time out or take a few minutes because it's always headed to Apple. Is that normal experience with others?

Navidrome users - how do you edit the track metadata? I've got my own completely separate system which lives outside of Navidrome, but I wondered if I'm missing something a bit more obvious?

I'm curious - have you thought about getting a ticket to @ffconf.org but then not (or haven't yet)? Why? It's a sincere question, we're trying to understand what's holding people back. (you can email me too remy@leftlogic.com)

Stupid #a11y question: if multiple images form a logo and I wrap these `img` elements in a `div` with `role='img'` and an `aria-label`, do I still need to set an empty `alt` on the `img` elements?
