Combatting housing discrimination is one of the stronger arguments for social housing imo.

siobhan mcdonough@siobhan-m.bsky.social

housing discrimination is insidious and the cases are some of the most difficult to prove because most of them are not stupid enough to tell you in writing that they’re doing it

More similar to the US codes than any other country unfortunately, though the plumbing code are slightly better in some ways.

No this isnt what I mean! I actually think public money should be spent on increasing supply, NOT on buying private housing and making it subsidized. The former helps everyone in all income brackets (especially poorer folks) while the second pne *only* helps the lucky few who get the bought

Yes, of course McDonald’s posting about National Coming Out Day is “performative.” Nobody thinks Ronald McDonald threw the first brick at Stonewall. Nonetheless, the biggest and most influential institutions in American life performing affirmation of LGBT social and civil equality is a good thing.

I think the only way they make you lazy is that they make it easier to stay on system 1 (reflex-like thinking) whereas before you didnt have a choice to often go to system 2 (slow methodical thinking). I too observe that they tend to make you work more, not less

SE Gyges@segyges.bsky.social

saying that LLMs makes you lazy is mostly incorrect, and ignores one of the actually harmful things about them: it means that as long as you're still capable of talking, you're capable of working. you can overwork yourself in ways that were never remotely possible before

Seriously. I see so many people on Twitter saying that they don't want multiplexes because they don't want so much immigration, and I can't help wondering if they noticed over the past bunch of years how a lack of housing never stopped immigration. It just forced the poorest into worse conditions.

Unpopular opinion: LLMs are generally deradicalizing people whose beliefs are based on pure propaganda. I've been watching this happen slowly with some people I care about. ChatGPT is one of the reasons they finally accept that the NRA, OAN, and NewsMax are lying to them.

Montreal rejected a REM expansion project because it would have put elevated trains on this road. After seeing it in person, this road is an abomination and would be greatly improved by elevated trains down the middle.

Edmonton didn't become Canada's most affordable major city by accident. Over the past decade, Council streamlined permitting, updated zoning, enabled mixed-use builds, and cut parking minimums. As we grow toward 2 million, affordability ensures Edmonton remains a city where we can all thrive.
