New dwarf planet just dropped.
For now, it's called 2026 ED138. It appears to be ~1000 kilometers (600 miles) wide. If confirmed, that would make it a dwarf planet about half the size of Pluto. π§ͺπ

At last ESA's Hera spacecraft for planetary defence has come close enough to resolve both bodies in the Didymos binary asteroid system separately - the smaller one was deflected by NASA's DART back in 2022 www.esa.int/Space_Safety...

The Collapse of Cuba
Hunger. Sickness. Blackouts. Abandoned streets. The withering of the state is shocking to behold.

Terribly sad to hear we lost Walter Koening. Hard for some to understand just how important the original #StarTrek crew are to many of us. They and the show weren't just entertainment, it *meant* something to us, it offered optimism in the face of MAD & the Cold War.
I learned my English watching Walter Koening on the BBC playing Pavel Chekov in Star Trek TOS, the only βgood Russianβ on TV during the height of the Cold War.
I like to think he had a bigger part in ending that war than people might think.
Also great as Alfred Bester in Babylon 5.
Farewell π
My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today.
Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.
This is a great day for Serbia, which has been lingering as a Russian controlled vassal state in the heart of Eastern Europe, as it finally breaks its chains.
I hope, like Hungary, they will choose freedom, rejoin the European community, and prosper.

this is how moral universalism gets you: you get to be a hater but you have to admit that your haters have a point? TRULY unfair

70 percent of the internet was vulnerable yesterday to very bad security flaws inside a coding language. Turns out, *one volunteer* is mostly responsible for maintaining that code & helping push updates. Yesterday OndΕej SurΓ½ saved the internet. So I called him up www.theatlantic.com/technology/2...
