Heidi Wong's Halloween costume (instagram) is as the Shimmer from the Annihilation movie, with a purse using my novel. Really clever, looks good affixed to the purse.

Generally, the more you read, the better you get as a writer. It's critical! One exception is that if I'm in the middle of writing something very specific and I hear about a project that's superficially similar, I may avoid checking that other thing out until I'm done with mine.

The process of reading and re-reading someone else's imperfect work and devoting mental energy to figuring out what's not working in it and how to fix it is how you develop the creative instincts that allow you to automatically, unconsciously avoid pitfalls and make breakthroughs in your own work.

Bulla regia is a wonderful site to visit. I went in March, when it's still cool. For that matter, every site I visited was magnificent. BR is the most unusual with its spacious underground villas. Here's my fave photo of Sbeitla. (1997).
