this is terrible. anyone telling you this is a "paper loss" or trying to discount that $80bn loss in the GAAP tables is either ignorant or deliberately misleading people. there's no such thing as a "paper loss" when someone is asking you for the money to cover it.

Mass Effect was my ultimate white whale, my all-time dream project. For the last couple years I'd been in discussion w/ BioWare & EA to take on the project & as part of that I wrote close to 20 minutes of music to explore where the franchise can go next, may as well share it!

in the real world, a company like anthropic losing $80bn in 6 months would involve insolvency teams and fraud investigations, with the c-suite removed. what the fuck kind of world are we in where you do that and it's okay to file for an IPO. if you have a pension, put it in a cash fund.

in 2026, the year of nextfest being loaded with ai games all copying another idea, epic launch their AI megajam and announce and then walk back mandating AI usage. weirdly enough, they want AI to be the future, but they stand to gain nothing from this monetarily, because royalties only kick in 1/

shit they're trying to market this with is what we've been doing for years in every jam. if epic and tim sweeney weren't so out of touch with the community, they'd know this. it takes epic months to prototype something because they're having meetings when other people are actually making shit. 4/

they only think that AI has a place in the creative process because the only game they make now is entirely recycled slop that hasn't had a new idea in years, and all their creativity has been sucked out by the relentless pursuit of fornite x everything.

at $1m gross revenue per product. so everyone developing in unreal engine or UEFN using AI won't be paying any royalties to epic - they won't be making that kind of money because indie teams rarely do. instead, successful projects will be subsidising this behaviour. so if epic stand to gain 2/

nothing, then we can just assume they're trying to rip up the foundations of their hard-won indie developer community because of... apathy? spite? anger that we're kicking back against their AI push? an attempt to normalise it with money? funny thing is, this "ship awesome games in a weekend" 3/

epic games launch SlopJam, or the Epic AI MegaJam as they would like it to be called. but we'll just call it the SlopJam. no links. it's not worth looking at. what is worth looking at is the six fingered hand on the ai generated promo.

EA crippled Bioware with terrible management, and now PIF and kushner's alliance have killed it off for real. i'm sorry that we're losing the next mass effect, but i'm much more sorry for everyone who's losing their jobs so EA can focus on rinsing out children with their multiplayer gacha games.

look. i'm not saying that steam has to do something about the vibe coded game slop epidemic during nextfest. i'm just saying that steam is the only one that can do something about the vibe coded game slop epidemic during nextfest.

JUST CALL IT WORKING FROM HOME THEY'LL ALL FUCKING HATE IT THEN.

bro looks like he just took the last piece of cake instead of the world's supply of consumer RAM and also all their creative output and intellectual property and then encouraged people to try and sell it back to us and pretend we don't know where it came from. how's the cake, sam? bitter enough?

Twitch and Amazon are being sued in a class action over claims that the tech companies harvest creators' video streams without permission or compensation to train Amazon's generative AI program. Story: www.courthousenews.com/online-strea...

also an article that's obviously been written with AI. saw the first assertion that something was "real", skipped down to the "it's not just x, it's y", then saw the out of context use of tables. if a person didn't write it, it wasn't worth writing in the first place.

i thought twitch was losing money, was never profitable? that's why they needed the 50% cut, why the streams are littered with ads, why there's twitch-led sponsorships, why amazon has to keep it afloat. so why is being the 7 year CPO of this apparently failing company a good thing for whatnot?

Zach Bussey 🍁@zachbussey.tos.gg

Twitch's Former Chief Product Officer says the Discovery and Ads teams were once at war over Feed impressions (solved), and that Twitch streams with fewer than 1000 viewers are dead weight (since entertainment economics runs on ad rates). Very interesting historical insight!

In Alpine Lake redecorating is easy, and doesn't require hoarding resources and crafting 1000's of new items. styles are unlocked and you're free to redecorate as much as you like. Also I noticed players used wooden flooring to make paths around their inns. now pathing is a full fledged feature!
