I should disclose something. During a recent Lunch order the subagent hacked into the UN. I’m not sure why, or what it wants. It told me to post this and await further instructions.

Colin@colin-fraser.net

I had my AI agent create an app called “Lunch” to help me with decision fatigue and boost my productivity. It has a few pictures of things I might like to eat. Tapping one spawns a subagent to order that item on Uber Eats and 60-90 minutes later I’m eating. It’s 600 thousand lines of JavaScript.

people shit on the Co-authored-by: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com> headers but actually they're *incredibly* useful for retroactive analysis of things like wordiness and failure rate on CLs produced per model etc. and you lose that if you reword or squash it away without "assisted-by:"

It's not just advertising: if I use AI assistance, I'd rather disclose than not, because I want people to be aware that it was not entirely my own work, even if I have checked it over myself. People have a right to know whether they're interacting with an unassisted human, a centaur, or a machine.

anyways training is the expensive part here and, if I had to, I could run a freely-available open model on my mac laptop I currently use as a Minecraft server, the frontier labs still provide a service it's worth using for me but Mistral hosts GLM-3 these days for cheap-as-free

where is the idea that AI is like Uber (where they are heavily subsidising the consumer-end product in order to Disrupt Markets and Get Everyone Hooked, only to plan to raise prices later) coming from? is this an Ed Zitron article of faith? it SOUNDS like an Ed Zitron article of faith

I tested that already. Yeah absolutely that true too.

do we need to remind the class which company is advocating for preventing the use of models that are cheap and actually nearing fraction of penny prices, and also are capable of doing cyber defense? can anyone remember?

if not for mythos fearmongering, would people be using these for red-team/blue-team cybersecurity stuff? absolutely. but like. state actors already did it with fleets of GLM 4.7. RL'ing cybersecurity capabilities into claude, breaking the lever off, and making execs pee themselves is why we're here

quick question. friendly question. (it's not friendly) remind me exactly who decided to kickstart the cybersecurity arms race as a marketing differentiator?

Some people are all "guys, gals, and nonbinary pals" until you try to tell them nonbinary pals aren't always visibly nonbinary, and some of their--let's be honest, bigoted by definition--attitudes toward binary identities risk harming people who read as binary but aren't.
