Similar things are happening for other feminist areas in philosophy (feminist epistemology anyone?). Would be interesting to think about why some areas get more attention than others.

But mainstreaming comes with downsides too. 1) Some things just don't fit the mainstream, and these get left behind. 2) It's harder for feminists to get together and share ideas.

Ali Teymoori and I wrote up a piece for @markrubin.bsky.social's excellent Critical Metascience blog. We summarise our new paper on disciplinary crises in psychology and some of the key take-homes for psychologists.

Mark Rubin@markrubin.bsky.social

“Methodological and administrative solutions are valuable, but they are not enough. Rather, we need to engage with the epistemic processes and ideals at the heart of psychological knowledge production and engage very closely with critical perspectives...” #PsycSci #Methodology #MetaSci

Psychologists tend to go in for changes to methods and statistics. But we argue these crises point to deeper epistemological issues that need to be addressed for the discipline to progress.

Inequalities in the funding landscape are actually a major barrier to OA publication. The author-pays model for OA means only those with access to resources get their research out there for all to read for free. OA should become truly open, for authors too! #OpenScience

I especially appreciate the policy to not accuse people of using AI in the comments thread, but to contact the editor instead. The same should apply in peer review.

More evidence of the benefits of lottery elements in funding.

Margot Finn@eicathomefinn.bsky.social

'The new procedure required applicants to submit only an expression of interest...before 500 were selected, via lottery, to submit a full proposal for peer review....the number of female applicants increased 10 per cent, while the number of funded projects by women rose by 23 per cent.' 2/2

Instead of thinking about motivation, I'll look at things like epistemic agency, aesthetics, values, individualism, meritocracy and injustices. tl;dr Gamification can be great, but we should be careful about what are set up as values and what expectations people get about their agency

Is #citizenscience exploitative? I gave a talk on this the other week and now you can check it out online. And hopefully soon I'll get around to writing the paper :)

Our latest International PostDoc Forum recording is on our YouTube channel now. In this episode, @rosetrappes.bsky.social discusses whether or not citizen science is exploitative. 17 videos in this playlist if you want to do a deep dive. #philsci

Tomorrow I'll be talking about disciplinary marginalisation. Feminist philosophy of science has moved from the margins to the mainstream. Feminist philosophy isn't niche, and now we know it! But we have to keep up solidarity amongst feminist philosophers of all stripes.

If you’re interested in practicing the philosophy of science in practice why not come along to an online workshop “the philosophy of science in practice - in practice”? #philsci

In #citizenscience, members of the public are doing menial scientific labour for free. Does this make it exploitative? Find out in my online talk tomorrow evening (European time) at @mcps-philsci.bsky.social

Our International Postdoc Forum is a virtual seminar series for early career researchers to share their work w/commentary by MCPS community members. Excited to welcome @rosetrappes.bsky.social (University of Bergen, Norway) at 1215 CT Wed 24 Sept. Sign up for Zoom link. buff.ly/MSAXLgY

Sometimes it feels like people think Douglas invented the science and values debate ex nihilo in 2009

We shouldn't be complacent about the status of feminist work in mainstream philosophy of science, especially not today. And it's not just censorship and bans. Cuts to academia all over the place threaten marginalised work and marginalised scholars.

Is citizen science good science? (surprise! yes it is!) I'll be walking through some of ways mistakes and biases affect #citizenscience and why it's not bad after all. All using resources from #philsci.
