When I think about it I’m surprised we don’t have any animals that are fully buoyant in air. Just floating around all the time.

What would you all recommend here? Thermos had a recall for defective lid. I jumped through all their steps and many months later they finally shipped it, but somehow UPS had the wrong address. So I have my favorite thermos bottle without a lid. And now their support won’t respond to me at all.

Today’s Daily podcast on the gutting of the Endangered Species Act (and the undead hand of Antonin Scalia) is as depressing as you expect, but it was good to hear Catrin Einhorn, who I knew as a young reporter at @wbez.org back in the day. She’s done great things.

In case you missed it yesterday (for which I blame Ed Sheeran), a bunch of us made a zine. We want you to print it and hand it to all your neighbors. Easy peasy.

Hello. They are going to try to fuck with your vote, and we are NOT going to let them. Last week I pinged my friend Dana Chisnell, who knows how elections work, and said "Hey, let’s make it hard for them to fuck with us.” Today, we are very proud to announce the HOW TO VOTE zine. howtovote.tips

howtovote.tipsHow to Vote / Cómo VotarA free field guide to what stops people from voting, and what to do about it. English and Spanish, ready to print.

Sometimes I browse through heritage auctions and I find the occasional odd gem, but today I stumbled upon the mother-load: these ridiculous grocery store ads promoting the release of The Jungle Book, and each one has me absolutely reeling. Sharing them here so you too can share in my bewildered joy

Texas is delaying its typical September 1 release of maternal mortality data until December 1, conveniently timed to be after the midterm election. Recent reports have shown a sharp rise in ectopic pregnancy deaths after the abortion ban went into effect. www.austinchronicle.com/news/texas-p...

If you're a data viz person and you're looking for a creative kickstart, why not look to the birds? Bird data is as fascinating as it gets, huge in scale and changing every day. It's also profoundly important as we face an uncertain ecological future. Best of all, you can make it yourself!

NEW: Flock has said for years its cameras don’t identify or track people. We obtained the code for its police AI and rebuilt parts of it. The tool can find witnesses, surface associates, search people by race or physical description, and flag vehicles by how they move. W/ @dell.bsky.social
