Steve makes a good point and I 100% agree. I suppose it's useful to some others to allow Alberta to be the sin-eater for the rest of the country 🤷♂️
Anyway, I am not at all convinced that the immigration questions wouldn’t have passed by a comparable margin in any other province (given comparable surrounding circumstances—i.e. public discussion on them overshadowed, pushed by a comparably unpopular government, etc.).

I’m running for Law Society of Alberta Bencher to bring my experience as a litigator, criminal prosecutor, and manager to the work of the LSA in regulating and ensuring public confidence in our profession. I’d be honoured to earn your support. Read more about me at damianforbencher.ca

Awful results in Alberta, where voters had the literacy to vote overwhelmingly against separation but not to toss out the 5 racist immigration red herrings, which now get weaponized by provinces, police, & the feds to crack down even harder. www.jurist.org/commentary/2...

I guess the separatists can celebrate one important victory: total capture of the CBC
Same panelist (who the fuck is this) just said Alberta is a province "whose votes fundamentally don't matter" because it doesn't get to unilaterally choose the federal government. Two of the last three PMs have been from Alberta.

This is what I tell people from outside of Alberta: you notice how these people have failed after all this time to produce a single presentable standard-bearer? It’s because they have nobody presentable—this is not a broad-based movement. It is a congregation of our most egregious kooks.

...But sure, CBC will interview three separatists at length while we wait forever for hand-counts and the Premier hides, because no harm will come of amplifying their rhetoric beyond the usual maple-MAGA echo chambers, right? This is the stupidest damned day.
Separatism "is a threat because it normalizes and scales up organizing for white supremacist, anti-immigrant policies, laundering them through western alienation. This referendum is a tool for demonstrating and building the far-right’s power and organizational capacity in Canada." #abpoli #cdnpoli

Most of the coverage tonight has been a relitigation of Alberta’s grievances. Talking to separatists whining about Trudeau, panelists whining about Trudeau…and nobody ever really trying to introduce facts to their feelings. Pathetic.
You don't have to do this, @cbcradiocanada.bsky.social. It's a choice. They want to defund you. They think you're a propaganda arm of an evil government. You will never win them over by showing them grace when they show absolutely none towards you.

thinking about how there used to be a lot of places I could go and just expect to see people I knew and could just visit/hangout with them. I actually do have a place like that now again (the courthouse cafeteria)
I hate texting so much. I hate the fact that phones are the only way to maintain a social life. I want to live in a place where people are just chilling in standard places you can find them. Neighbours popping in to chat. I want to throw my phone in the ocean

I went to the Vernon Cadet Training Centre as a kid. I also know the woman on the right. we volunteered with kids together, she is a model citizen. this shit is sickening.
This is a picture of two women from the Vernon Cadet Training Centre, which holds summer programming for 12-18 year olds to develop skills on the way to adulthood. Unlike Secretary Hegseth, they do not deserve contempt or ridicule.
