Voyager 1 has 60kb of memory, an 8-track tape and runs on Fortran. It has come up close and personal with every planet in our solar system and also Pluto (heh) So why the fuck do I need to download megabytes of JavaScript just to read a webpage.

Why do all these people have depression we ask as we create systems designed to make their lives as insecure as possible.

Today in 1943 Yugoslav resistance fighter Lepa Radić was killed by the Nazis. Unbroken after days of torture she was given a final chance on the gallows to give up her comrades. She said "I'm no traitor. You'll know them when they come for you, to the last man." She was 17

What’s the difference between Mercedes-Benz, IBM and Tesla? … nothing, they all supported Nazis, but at least for two of them, it was 85 years ago.

Elon Musk is starting to risk getting Jess Phillips killed. She's been safeguarding minister for six months. She oversaw nothing relating to the rape gangs. As an opposition MP she was one of the most prominent campaigners for the victims. What he's doing is a travesty.

Hands up if you can count the passage of time by the date on which your dog snaps a knee ligament? Mine's snapped her left one, 3 years to the day after snapping her right one (She's got health insurance, this is very treatable, the surgery is called a TPLO)

I don't work for free and neither should you. > at the moment *REDACTED* wants to limit my salary based on the revenue/margin it makes on me. That should be mutual and hence I will only do work that directly makes the revenue and all the *REDACTED* admin work is done by someone else.

There's a tremendous amount of old-cis-white-guy that went into this post. YMMV. Seriously, know your worth and ask for what you believe is fair compensation for your skills, knowledge and experience (and sense-check that with your peers, talk money, the only thing it can hurt is the establishment)

Describe yourself using 5 things that are always in your bag at any given moment: - Pill-shaped tin of painkillers - Min 2 x USB cables I won't need - Umbrella that is neither as compact or as robust as I'd like - Pixel buds - Hothands hand warmers in case of Raynaud's attack. Tis the season

I do luv a <I could do [large successful product] in a weekend> post on the orange site But this one is a 👨‍🍳💋

I should congratulate #Ealing on having *the worst* Council Tax IT system ever. It takes effort to be this shit. Got bill; setup a direct debit; can't link to existing MyEaling acct; deduct £6 then auto-create a duplicate account; never send bill; send reminder for non-existent bill... :slow clap:

Hats off to the Online Portal helpdesk person who was honest and said "This is really complicated to fix, you could just sign up with a new email address on the portal and then adopt that Council Tax account and lose the other one" My child, I have several domains of infinite emails. We got this!

I don't understand why All Hallow's Eve requires fireworks. Fireworks aren't supernatural (China invented them c. 200BC) and dead people don't give a shit about loud bangs in the sky. Save all that for next week, when for some bizarre reason we celebrate a failure to overthrow the monarchy.

My response to recruiters looking for people to work in AI startups: ---- No. You are killing the planet. I would need a salary 10x market (at least) to override my own sense of morality. Best of luck in your search! Sam

I lived for 4yrs with 18M/1M DSL and 30M/30M 4G costing about £60/m, it's a bit of a luxury to have a 1000/100 AND a 900/900 internet connection (costing about £67/m) But I f*cking earned this... (I work on/with the internet and I could work on what I had, but it sure is nicer to work on gigabit)

As a teenager in Neustrelitz (East Germany), I painted small stones purple and left them all over town. Did it for years. It drove the police and Stasi nuts. It meant nothing. It just felt good to do something they couldn't control or understand.
