i know not a lot of people are playing marathon right now, which saddens me, but it brings me so much joy that the Monsanto/McDonald's faction's design language includes 2000s-era Apple-style Helvetica phrases plastered all over their guns
T_T we looted the little commander box and had escaped any combat with other guys and right before we got in the guarded exfil to escape a couple guys ganked us lol - i almost escaped but was blown out by a vandal blast lmao
Fewer people voted for BC Conservatives this year than in 2024.
NDP
2024: 944,463
2026: 669,257
CON:
2024: 911,142
2026: 860,565
NDP appealed to right-wing voters they didn't get. Their base felt ignored and decided to not vote?

David Eby's legacy will be going from someone who wrote a book on your civil rights while being arrested to overseeing the raids on Wet'suwet'en territory as attorney general to centre right neoliberalism that led to conservatives winning for the first time in over a century
decided to watch House on Haunted Hill (1999) on a whim (inspired partially by Haunted Hotel, season 2 out now on netflix watch it lmao) and why didn't anyone ever tell me the opening title sequence is this brothers quay-ass stopmotion / collage set to driving organ music
famke janssen and jeffrey combs are in it. and chris kattan. i have no idea how big any of these parts are (except famke who had top billing)
anyway i'm excited for whatever this turns out to be. 92 minutes, perfect length.
this is the most late 90s-ass movie i've seen in a long time, it rocks. bring back extreme fish-eye lens shots.
i also forgot that i had watched the original with vincent price a couple years ago, excited for a remake told millenial style
Voter turnout was low (est. 48%, ~ 10% drop?).
The Cons obviously did extremely well.
Greens are up from their low in 2024, but at 11% are still within historical norms (8-15%).
What changed? I doubt all those NDP votes switched to Con. I'm guessing low turnout = NDP voters staying home. #bcpoli
Only the parties have access to riding-level polling data (I’m not sure how good they are, but they have them). The only publicly available polls are province-wide, & any website that translates them to the riding level is making guesses no better than what you could do yourself. Do not rely on them
Getting this out of the way early: if you share vote prediction screenshots for individual ridings from election projection websites
And frame it as a poll or something with authority
And there has been no actual polling done in that riding
I will think much less of you
please don't annoy me
We're gonna see a whirlwind of privatization attempts in bc if the cons win, which they probably will. Big fights ahead for the labour movement and just people in general
i'm watching chobits for the first time and hideki's landlord must think he's such a fuckin weirdo
mfw the 18 year old i let move into the building i manage means well but has AI psychosis
Also i just gotta say I can't stand hideki, I want him to get hit by a bus and put out of his misery. He'd probably be daydreaming and talking out loud about how he wants to motorboat his coworker at the time.
When/if CLAMP makes me like him later in the series I am going to be very cross
You need to see Wildeood right fucking now. Human art is here to stay. Stay for the end credits. Laugh, cry, and cheer with the entire theater. I’m in awe. How did they do it.
Wildwood was good!! The animation was unreeeeal i have no idea how they pulled off -most- of it lol.
The scale of the film was wild- there's stuff going in there that would be difficult-to-impossible to achieve in most mediums, let alone stop-motion
I'm sure there was a bunch of CG and compositing going on to really fill things out but really just gorgeous work all around from Laika on this one.
A fun adventure story too! Surprisingly dark, felt kinda like Labyrinth but in Portland
Hard for me to even think about it critically because I was so dazzled by the visuals, I was just shocked at how gorgeous it was pretty much constantly. I did like the story too! But gosh, what a beautiful damn film
Notice that you almost never hear about billionaires doing anything actually *good* for the world. Even "philanthropy" when it happens is just image-laundering combined with a non-democratic public policy implementation (ie. If we just taxed them we could get what philanthropy gives anyway)
*NEW* Colossal Biosciences’ Ben Lamm and Anduril’s Palmer Luckey team up on a new startup to genetically engineer war dogs for the military. Warhound comes out of stealth at $1.2B valuation

My thesis, which is a hot take i know, is that billionaires are inherently evil and must cease to exist if we are to stand a chance at weathering the next century as a society
But seriously, you don't have to be vegan to recognize the absolute cruelty in training and breeding dogs for war or policing. Genetic engineering and wearable dog-tech is just the next step in a long tradition of torturing canines
Anti-immigrant sentiment in Alberta has hit a majority, and that province is hardly an outlier. That's what happens when we fail to blame a lack of planning and instead blame people who are just trying to find a place to live securely.

Vancouver had the highest voter turnout in years, and almost a fully progressive slate.
New West had lower turnout than last year, and was a right-wing sweep.
A big part of the electoral left's work needs to be getting the vote out: most people who don't vote would be voting more left if they did
People are at least sometimes willing to hold their breath and vote for the bad but not awful choice when it's a Regularly Scheduled Election. But when the bad choice is actively antagonistic to voters? A bunch of them are gonna stay home
Just want to add that some replies have noted that I was wrong about voter turnout in New West being lower than it was last time -- I had bad information that I didn't bother to check on. My mistake!
My broader point that get-out-the-vote efforts are extra important for left candidates stands tho!
I fought the Site C dam for 6 years. I helped get the NDP elected in 2017 in the hope they’d stop it, as they implied they would when in opposition. Like my Indigenous friends in the Peace Valley, I haven’t voted for them since. They’re always sorry when they phone me
Nothing will make you more averse to voting BC NDP than getting arrested by the militarized shock troops of the RCMP, tacitly authorized by the BC NDP govt, when you’re peacefully defending the last of our old growth forests at Fairy Creek
🤝 I was also arrested at FC and will not be voting for the NDP (in fairness my riding is very safe from the conservatives so it isn't really a dilemma, but still, I didn't vote for them in the last election either and probably won't again until i see a big turnover and change of direction)

I'm so peeved at Eby and the BCNDP generally, for lots of reasons, but the fact that they may be hand-delivering the province to conservatives is a big one.
He called a prov election on top of muni elections, two years early -- this is going to absolutely crater turnout, and he might lose from it
Okay but OneCity?? Between this and refusing to sign the pledge for Palestine they probably should have had an actual backbone. Instead, they were limited to the one incumbent councillor in what should have been a lay-up full-slate election for them.
Reminder: during the most riotous parts of the George Floyd Uprising the movement was at its most popular, with the destroying of the 3rd precinct polling much higher than either presidential candidate, and it was only after months and years of revision that ppl talk like they werent
Last day for CAG members to submit to CAG Shorts! Anything you've made in the past year is legit, including old 5 Second Day shorts! Can be quick and simple, we just wanna show off your stuff!
Hey Vancouver and environs!
Election Day is tomorrow! Go vote!
If you're intimidated about the enormous ballots, consider checking out Vote For Here, which is all the vetted candidate endorsements for the region from the Vancouver & District and New Westminster Labour Councils

i just got back from a birthday party at like 2:15 am and hadn't had much of a chance to check the results and let me just say, i am very pleased.
Let's hope that a few things change around here
