1,000 is a useful frame for explaining the threat measles poses to children: for every 1,000 cases, about 200 children will need hospitalization 50 will develop pneumonia and 1 to 3 will die.

#OnThisDay in 1900, Max Planck presented his law of black body emission, Planck’s law. Planck's law (coloured curves) accurately describe black body radiation and resolved the ultraviolet catastrophe (black curve) a prediction of late 19th/early 20th century classical physics.

getting emails that your FICO score has changed are really weird. “Hey Mike the banks have been talking and we are all feel slightly different about you. We thought you should know”

What does "The Great Wave off Kanagawa" by Hokusai have in common with Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein" & the alchemical formula for eternal life? Let's learn about how Prussian Blue was created & the bizarre life of Johann Konrad Dippel. Our story begins in Castle Frankenstein (the real one)...

We already have flying cars. They're called helicopters. They're really expensive and there are good reasons you have to have a pilot license and work with air traffic control to fly them. Putting jets on a sedan is not going to result in a better vehicle or transportation experience in any way.

Year of Space Facts: Week 41/52 🔭🧪🛰 The universe is filled with old light, once infrared/visible but now the Cosmic Microwave Background, emitted when the universe was just 380,000 years old! It's remarkably smooth: the variations in this image cover 600 millionths of a kelvin. 📸 ESA/Planck

The US Democrats need to look at their next Presidency as an endless sprint to obliterate MAGA, every day for years. Until the cancer is gone then there should be no time wasted on MAGA tears or conciliation. Only endless justice and rebuilding the democracy. Govern like every day is the last day.

Heading into the midterms, here's one of my favorite cross stitch patterns that feels relevant. Patterns are free (tips welcome) and are full stitches and limited palette, so generally good for beginning stitchers or good relaxation for experienced stitchers. ko-fi.com/s/8e5fbf75cc

Kenneth Grahame's original titles for The Wind in the Willows were 'The Mole & The Water Rat' or 'Mr Mole & His Mates'. He settled on 'The Wind In The Reeds' (this was the original title of Ch. 7, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn') then he learned Yeats' 1899 collection was 'The Wind Among The Reeds'.

This is the most remarkable story Ray Bradbury ever shared with me. He told it to me late one night, sitting in his den of antiquities and mementos. Take five minutes to read this. It’s pure magic. #Writing #Living #Creativity #RayBradbury #BookSky
