D&D in Japan: The big mid-90s push. The bunkobon format of the three-volume Rules Cyclopedia, localized in both text and artwork style. It sought to reclaim some of the ground lost to Lodoss and Sword World - complete with D&D in the arcades with Capcom to promote the Mystara setting.

The very odd phrasing of this announcement makes me wonder if it’s an iffy translation or there’s some strange legal situation where the movie as a product (or physical product) cannot be sold. Like, streaming is okay but no blurays or if this just means the characters and music can be used.

I always advocate for folks to avoid recast kits, but I'm still utterly fascinated by the weird ones. Like this, a resin copy of a plastic Imai kit that has extensive instructions in English including a random suggestion that women not use CA glue zip kicker on fake nails (??)

Most recast kits just have a photocopy of the instructions and a color photo pasted on the box so I appreciate that some effort went into this... but at the same time, the original kit is cheap and not at all hard to find. Absolute headscratcher.

Since it comes out in just over one week, I should probably talk a bit more about my book. Despite the subtitle, it’s very much talking about both music and cycling in Japan for most of the time, though it’s something a bit different from a guide to those things.

After a years long search for a copy, Mad Angler Press would like to formally introduce a 4K/HD scan of GUNSIGHT Phase 0, a text that is a cornerstone as to how we understand Mobile Suit Gundam's lore today. To view the text, please visit below:

The computer image is from Hiroshi Sasaki's Texture-X, a CD-ROM that Gainax published (during their big CD-ROM phase) with a variety of images and textures he created. Sasaki did background art and served as art director for titles like Roujin Z, Gunbuster, and the never-made Gainax film Route 20.

Screenwriter Sukehiro Tomita has said that Mospeada's "loser/underdog" atmosphere was a part of the original pitch by Kakinuma and Aramaki. It certainly helped to set the series apart from its peers. (Psst, you can read that interview with Tomita on our Patreon www.patreon.com/cw/zimmerit)

Also, in regards to all those unused mecha designs. That they were rescued and cataloged at all is thanks to the efforts of Roger Harkavy. Had he not figured that out, they'd likely have disappeared forever. You can find some of those materials in Udon's ROBOTECH Visual Archives books.

Plenty of acclaimed series faced early cancellations (Gundam, Macross) but Mospeada feels like the most tantalizing "what if" scenario, had the longer series run followed through. Huge amounts of unused designs were being sketched throughout the series' run.

Our latest original resin kit is option parts for building a Smartgun similar to something you may have seen in some ‘80s Gundam manga. Multi-media kit, meaning it comes with brass parts and vinyl hose.

don't you DARE come at me saying "City Hunter" instead of the actual Japanese name, Shiti Hanta

Sometimes, this is helpful to let you readily distinguish who to stay away from. There was a quite sharp zeitgeist differential between people who would say "My Hero Academia" and people who would INSIST on "Boku no Hero Academia" that I understood why separate anime con panels were needed for each.

New batch of kits are up in the shop including some real interesting ones. A limited edition Daicon Bunny Girl sold via the Aomori Museum of Art, some super deformed dinosaurs, and a few 1/35 Maschinen Krieger kits sold at Wonder Festival way back in the early early 2000s.
