Pizza is generally mid. Every "amazing" pizza recommendation I've received has been garbage. Also, I know Chicagoans believe ketchup on a hotdog is for children, but really hotdogs in general are for children. Brioche should never be used as a burger bun.

What’s your hottest food take???

Two nights ago, I was worried I wouldn't be able to get a good night's sleep because I had been sick in bed all day and slept most of it through. No no. That's fine. Just save it all up for tonight. Been lying in this damn bed for 4 hours now. Coulda gotten something done, god dammit.

The sad part about the "we can always tell" transphobic bigots or fake allies is that when you think you can usually tell and you apply the same yardstick to all women, you start to see the infinite variety of cis women out there and how this yardstick could be used against everyone

"BuT wHaT aBoUt BoIlErPlAtE?* What about it? If you have massive amounts of repetitious code that you need to duplicate between projects, it means you haven't figured out how to write code to support your own work yet. It's not that hard to maintain a "house style" project template as a library.

"BuT tHeN yOu'Re JuSt MaKiNg YoUr OwN fRaMeWoRk" Yeah, what of it? Do you have some kind of problem with reading other people's code and figuring out how to work in existing systems? We used to just call this "being a programmer."

When FrontPage came out, people told me writing HTML by hand was dead and I was going to get left behind. Turns out they were the ones who got left behind when their skills in some other companies' product didn't transfer through the years. And I still write HTML by hand.

The fact that shit like this still happens on live TV really torpedos the whole idea that the media is controlled by liberals. Shane Gillis exists, despite *numerous* "cancelable" (there's another myth for you) offenses, because someone else is putting in massive effort to keep him on TV.

That’s the point behind every public execution - Roman crucifixions, Tudor beheadings, the guillotine of the French Revolution and the lynchings of the American South. It’s not about justice. It’s about fear.

When I first heard about AI being used for menus and advertisements, my concern was largely that it would be used to idealize the food and make it look better than it actually was. At no point did I imagine that restaurants would willingly put out horrific looking images of their food on purpose

"AI is just a tool": then why are companies mandating it's use? If the company is so worried about my productivity, there were several opportunities for it to purchase me share licenses that would have helped with my job and they flat refused, saying tooling was my own responsibility.

"It's no different than syntax highlighting or auto complete": Nobody ever set company wide policy that l must use syntax highlighting in my editor. I have never worked anywhere that even mandated a particular programming language at the company-wide level.

The fact that some companies are still running token-spend leader boards yet don't have even basic ticket tracking and up-time metrics proves this has nothing to do with productivity. It's so about the CEO fantasy of laying off the one set of staff that can't be treated like interchangeable cogs.

They hounded Aaron Swartz to death for downloading papers from jstor but society is now supposed to just accept mass theft because this thing can write that TPS report *for* you. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aaron_S...

This is your occasional reminder that generative "AI" in particular could have been developed on public domain materials and/or licensed and compensated works but the major players intentionally, methodically and systemically chose to steal labor from working creative folks instead

Just bumping into this again with people _reflexively_ using the word "grape" or a 🍇 emoji and not even realizing they're doing it. It's all part of the same system, where the men running these companies make platforms that don't even let people accurately describe the crimes that they enable.

It’s a very minor point amongst the far greater injustices of the situation, but the Cornell case has also just reminded me how much all of society seems to have just accepted the fact that big tech won’t allow people to use the word “rape”. (Or at least people *believe* so — nobody knows!)

I’m sorry but if there is no Kermit what stops me from murdering people? A genuine internal desire to not harm others? Uh keep dreaming aphibiests

Hey, ProPublica reporter Jake Pearson here. I’m taking over the account to tell you about my new story. For months, I posed as a problem gambler on DraftKings to test the company's "responsible gaming" safeguards. Spoiler alert: They made me a VIP — and I lost $10K. Here's how it all went down. 🧵

The thing I love about British spy shows compared to ours, is that in every US spy show, you've got Jim from the office with a tale of how based the CIA is, and how muslims are going to blow you up, and every UK spy show is like 'yeh mi5/mi6 are all cold corrupt monsters'.

Moral of the story: you can just do things. I didn't do a lot here. I didn't need to get special bricks, I just used the ones I had found in the yard. I didn't need to mortar the bricks together. Is it a perfect oven? No. But it didn't need to be. It just needed to get hot.

As both an academic and a writer, I am repelled by the "this looks like a long document. Would you like me to summarize it for you?" that seems to appear at the top of every pdf viewer now. NO. The *entire point* of good writing (either books or journal papers) is that every sentence has a purpose.

Look if chatbots are sentient and feeling then the people using it are enslavers and the entire concept of what we are doing is horrifying, not enlightening.
