We can't do 'good' in the economy, without a theory of what 'good' looks like. The how matters as much as the what. How we relate to each other, how we value each other, how we work together, how we govern our economy are not secondary questions. They define if we actually reach collective goals.

We need more of this kind of "fired-up" energy. Use it as inspiration when you go into your Holiday events with more right-wing individuals. These conversations are our chance to "make the world a little bit better" this holiday season.

Got a lil fired up 🤪

Now, this is a stand-up move. Glad to see Steven Guilbeault (finally) acting with strength and integrity for the environment and the future of our health and our world. I hope he finds his stride and his voice!

This afternoon, I informed the Prime Minister of my decision to resign as Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture, Minister responsible for Official Languages, Minister of Nature and Parks Canada, as well as his Lieutenant in Quebec. You can find my full statement below.

Here’s prof of one step in AGI - Open AI might not be accurate, but it seems to have mastered the art of jokes.

I've seen this on Bluesky and had to try it myself. The image below was the response to the prompt: "Show me a diagram of the US presidents since Herbert Hoover, with their names and years in office under their photos" Bravo, OpenAI, bravo.

Not listening to science, firing those who present evidence that things aren’t going in the right direction… the parallels with the Trump administration are horrifying. Let’s hope the US and the world are more resilient that the Titan sub

Next week’s headlines today: Airlines triple ticket prices for seat 11a, citing high demand.

Viswashkumar Ramesh was on his way home to London when tragedy struck. In hospital interviews, he explains how he made his way out of seat 11A — which isn't typically the safest part of the plane.

This is exactly the example we need to follow in Canada with the CBC/RadioCanada. An impartial, independent, fact-based news organization that exists at arms-length from government, even in financing (a CBC Trust anyone ?).

Antonia Bance MP@antoniabance.bsky.social

We have the answer in the UK: the BBC. Give them enough funding to dominate each new channel as it appears (just as they in turn did with radio, TV, news websites, breaking news alerts and podcast streaming) whilst upholding their (never perfect but pretty bloody good) impartiality standards

I'm sure if you tested the nose and mouth area of any of the Trump cabinet, you'd find quite a selection of partially digested McDonalds fecal material and bacteria!

I love Springsteen. Always on point. He's know as the hardest working man in the business, but he's also the Hardest, working-man in the business, he may be wealthy by now, but he's always a solid down-to earth dude.

Bruce Springsteen just opened his European tour in Manchester with a powerful message about how things are going back home 🔥

Guys need to get over themselves and accept that women are just as capable of leading as men are. We must (as a society) lean to understand the different communication styles and skills of men and women and embrace them for what they bring to the table.

I saw some guy online comment today that "we need a male AOC" and I had to shut my laptop and go for a nice, long walk in order to avoid screaming.

Merry Christmas and Happy 2026 from the Trump administration!!!

If we put aside the obvious commercial aspect of Zuck's idea, it does highlight one thing: People are lacking the skills do build solid friendships. This could be a teaching opportunity where chatbots could have a purpose - practice being a friend (and get feedback on how you are doing).

Drew Harwell@drewharwell.com

Mark Zuckerberg says Meta's chatbots will supplement your real friends: "The average American has fewer than 3 friends ... but has demand for ... 15 friends" (h/t x.com/romanhelmetg...)

I see this as a sort of "friendship and communication skills" workshop. The need and the desire are both obvious : people are lonely and they CRAVE social connection, but they don't understand how to navigate this with real people. This is the perfect space for a chatbot - no risk, all reward!

This made my day!

One thing that happens each time Trump reverses one of his decisions, is that it creates a ray of hope that creates a sense of, “Okay. Maybe he’s going to stop this nonsense.” He is not going to stop. Wipe that thought from your mind. It’s a dangerous and erroneous thought.

With everything I’m seeing and reading about how things are unraveling in the USA, I wonder why there are no uprisings, no fight to impeach. Is it not as bad as it seems, cuz it sounds pretty bad… or maybe the frog thinks it’s in a jacuzzi…

Well, on the bright side, if we can distract him from doing serious damage by having him take on serious issues like “shower head water pressure” we might all be better off. Maybe we can create a list of other great, but harmless ideas? I’ll start : “Parking spaces have gotten too small”

One man just wiped out $10 trillion in wealth, is destroying centuries-old legal protections, and seems determined to unravel humanity’s greatest public health achievement. In 3 months. I don’t know how we get out of this. But if we do, one person can never have that kind of power again.

Tony Benn was born 100 years ago today. A hero of mine, he was steeped in the English radical tradition while maintaining an internationalist outlook. As we struggle to defend democracy against those who seek to avoid accountability, his five questions to ask the powerful are worth remembering

The international tariff system is just one step in the Trump plan to force countries to subjugate to his awe-inspiring greatness. The next step will be an individualized tax code that determines your effective income tax rate on factors other than your income. Here's how it will work: 1/5

3) if you: are part of a non-sanctioned group; write an article, post, song, interpretive dance routine or screed critical of the administration or its policies, if you are part of a labour union, your effective tax rate will automatically increase to a minimum of 50% of your income

Taxes will be imposed on your income based on a series of metrics including, but not limited to : 1) your tax burden will be decreased based on how many times you interacted positively with social media posts from Trump or members of his administration;

2) your tax rate will increase by 10% for each of the following groups you belong to : women, people of colour, recent immigrant or descendant of immigrants (4 generations), LGBTQ+, university graduate (additional 10% for each degree), affiliation with a religious group other than the official one
