This was the Greenbank to Meadows Quiet Route this morning. At least the drivers aren’t speeding and ignoring the Give Way road markings when they’re at a standstill.

Today marks Metastatic (Secondary) Breast Cancer Awareness Day. And while most breast cancers don’t come back after treatment, it’s important to know the signs and symptoms in case they do.

Silence from the MP… So strange to be unable to say anything on the increased level of harm to children… Is it #MotorNormativity ?

Blackford Safe Routes@blackfordsaferoutes.co.uk

But what do *you* think about the increased traffic in the Braid Estate, and the increased likelihood of a child being harmed by drivers crashing their cars and SUVs?

A small number of angry drivers / pandering politicians had enough incentive to get the council to remove a years-old quiet neighbourhood scheme. The same concentration of power doesn’t exist in the diffuse body of local people who would like not to have overturning SUVs in their street

This is a direct result of council blunders and a shameful decision of Labour, Lib Dem & Tory councillors to rip these protections out. Kids and other vulnerable road users will be in more road danger as a result. Absolutely shameful.

1000s of parents, carers, and kids, across 6 schools, support these “closures” - the silent majority, busy trying to live their lives The “controversy” has largely been manufactured by the media, a handful of agitators, and some councillors with vested interests

Just how rubbish is #Edinburgh at providing even minimum levels of walking and cycling safety? www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/edinbur...

Breast cancer can happen to anyone – no matter your ethnicity, gender or age. So it’s really important to get to know your body and check yourself regularly. It’s as simple as TLC: Touch your breasts or chest Look for changes Check anything unusual with a GP breastcancernow.org/TLC

Meanwhile Edinburgh Council is removing the modal filters that for 5 years have helped keep people safe when using the Greenbank to Meadows Quiet Route. Traffic down 40%, cycling up 160%, ave speeds down to 15mph, lots of people walking, all being risked over a drafting error that they won’t fix!

Mike McTimoney@miketually.bsky.social

Instead of encouraging people to get around using active methods, we should be enabling it. Building safe, convenient, attractive walking and cycling infrastructure would save the NHS an absolute fortune. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

For 5 years the Greenbank to Meadows Quiet Route has been a safe route through residential streets and past several schools, but today the pro-car lobby groups might get their way to be able to rat-run through our streets again due to council errors. www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/edinbur...

Without a doubt, this MUST come back to the Transport Committee and not just be thrown away by TRO Sub. We cannot lose miles of safe route to paperwork incompetence. The south of the city has too little else for safe cycling.

⚠️ An updated report for TRO Sub-committee finds a THIRD erroneously worded filter to remove on on Canaan Lane: https://democracy.edinburgh.gov.uk/documents/s98371/4.1%20-%20Travelling%20Safely%20-%20Braid%20Road%20Comiston%20Road%20and%20Greenbank%20to%20Meadows%20Quiet%20Connection%20ETRO.pdf

We’re currently speechless about the likely loss of a safe route for kids in the Braid Estate When the affluent few can pay a lawyer to find the slightest discrepancy in the paperwork, to kill off a scheme put in place through community action, that is NOT DEMOCRACY!

New figures show that almost one million people are living with or beyond breast cancer in the UK. And by 2050 it’s projected to reach over 1.4 million. Behind these figures are too many human lives being touched and ripped apart by this devastating disease.

✊ Transport committee votes for Greenbank to Meadows quiet route permanence (‘Option C’) 🥳 Still to be ratified at TRO Sub-committee in June (dare they try it on?) but a significant win for one of the few measures supporting active travel in South Edinburgh. 🚲💕

✅ Agreeing to option C for Greenbank-Meadows Quiet route (which refers it to TRO sub-committee to consider making some or all of it permanent) and asking for a further report back on implications. 🙏 Asking for reports back on Broomhouse pavements petition & Figgate Park pedestrian safety. 3/3

Let’s hope this time the TEC puts the safety of local residents who walk, wheel and cycle in the Braid Estate ahead of the additional 4,000 drivers that were expected to return to our residential streets had the 2024 vote been implemented. It should save £££s too!

It's clear it must come back - the integrity of the process has been shown to be completely compromised. Key Q now is will Labour reverse its dreadful position of voting with Tories & Lib Dems to rip out measures protecting kids travelling safely to & from school? If they don't this means nowt.

It's essential that the decision to rip out the quiet route is now revisited. I have written to senior council officers to request this.

⚠️ Today, Standards Commission hearing (Councillors Neil Ross & Marie-Clair Munro) found both had breached the Councillor code of conduct for failing to declare they lived by the Braid Estate when dealing w/ Greenbank to Meadows Quiet Route, including their votes to remove effective traffic filtering

The controversial and surprising vote to remove highly effective traffic calming measures from a residential area and re-introduce up to 6,000 vehicles daily — on a 'quite route' for walking, wheeling and cycling spanning two primary schools — must surely now be revisited at Transport Committee.

Sheena Nimmo reposted

This demonstrates that the vote to rip out the modal filters and other active travel measures in the Braid estate was not only unjustifiable, but also arrived at by a tainted process which must now surely be revisited.

The reporting of this is so bad. It's not the closures that are controversial, it's wasting 400k on a bike lane so that cars can be 2 minutes faster, for about a year until a new equilibrium is found and the times go back to what they were, but with added noise, pollution and danger for residents
