Imagine living in a world where news channels, talk shows/radios all took the time to assess a situation, research the facts and present the same to their audience without some ridiculous attempt to seek 'balance'. Anyway here's a link to @quietriotpod.bsky.socialopen.spotify.com/episode/2bwx...
Bolsonaro's loss is not just a loss for Bolsonaro.
It's a loss for Trump.
For Musk.
For Milei.
For Netanyahu.
For Farage.
For Meta and Zuckerberg.
For the meat barons, the fossil fuel corporations, and the rest of the neocolonial looters.
And it is a massive win for humanity and the living planet.
In addition to two fascists losing elections in Serbia and Brazil yesterday, Oxford Street in London was closed to vehicular traffic and transformed into a pedestrian zone. 🥳
Palantir’s technology sits at the heart of a major NHS data programme. Campaigners want it out. Their objections go far beyond patient privacy – taking in Gaza, ICE, lobbying, procurement and the revolving door between politics and business. Report by Aidan Baker
The lessons from Brazil and Serbia?
Don't concede one inch of ground to the far right.
Don't appease.
Don't triangulate.
Don't grovel.
Don't say they have "legitimate concerns".
Mobilise your base, and fight them with all the democratic means at your disposal.
Private equity buys UK fertility clinics.
PE already controls social care, hospitals, GP surgeries, dentistry, child fostering.
Usual business model. High debt, quality of care declines, prices increase, high profits.
When things go wrong, NHS has to step in, PE doesn't pay.
As the cost-of-living crisis pushes households to the brink and climate breakdown places further stress on public services, only the Green Party are pushing for genuine action at the Budget this week.
In a little-noticed webpage update, the Environmental Protection Agency has announced a plan to decommission its online web archive at the end of the year, a move that would wipe tens of thousands of publicly available environmental resources from the web.
Why has a company providing one of society's most basic services reached a position where so much needs to be spent putting the system right? | Mick Channon
Some of Europe’s highest energy costs expected in Britain this winter.
Since privatisation UK gas storage capacity reduced to about 8 - 12 days, EU has 80 -120 days.
UK is net importer of electricity.
Wars, privatisation and profiteering take toll.
What if the internet simply stopped working? Our banks, courts and public services depend on fragile technology few of us understand. Ben Smith explains how vulnerable our digital world really is.

NEW: our latest work, in partnership with @neweconomics.bsky.social details just how much longer we are working to afford the same stuff.
Do have a rummage through this fascinating report 👇
Cal Roscow, B4B Director of Campaigns:
“The UK finds itself facing a global cost of living ‘crisis’ calcifying into an unsustainable new normal"
“The Attainability Index arose to open a new window onto this reality and offer researchers, academics and campaigners a new language to convey it in”

Won’t lower energy bills.
Won’t boost energy security
And creates just 27 jobs.
Compared to all the benefits of investing in renewables and insulating our homes.

Just to be clear, Elon Musk’s disabling of starlink/starshield helps Putin target civilians rather than Ukrainian forces. By hampering air defences, he’s not just helping Russia’s military. He’s helping it commit war crimes
The Govt claiming we must drill more fossil fuels so we can use the tax revenues to fund the green transition is about as logical as a doctor telling you to smoke 2 packs a day to raise the money for your lung transplant
You don’t put out a fire by pouring on more fuel 🔥#Jackdaw
UK Tory govt failures led to Covid spreading ‘like wildfire’ in care homes.
Ministers lied. Residents sent home without protection.
43,000 died from Covid-19 in UK care homes between March 2020 and July 2022.
2016 Exercise Cygnus showed NHS couldn't cope with a flu pandemic. Govt did nothing.
A lack of PPE meant staff had to resort to workarounds, including bin bags, festival waterproof ponchos and painters' overalls.
The report is also critical of the way hospital COVID patients were moved to care homes to make space for others.
The Covid Inquiry’s Module 6 report is devastating. Its central conclusion: adult social care was treated as “something of an afterthought”, while “protecting the NHS” sometimes came at the expense of people receiving and providing care.

Our NHS has been hollowed out over the last few decades. Thank you @premnsikka.bsky.social
The UK has 2.4 NHS beds PER 1,000 people
Japan: 12.6
Germany: 7.7
Austria: 6.6
France: 5.4
OECD average: 4.2
This is why we have the disgrace of corridor care. It's time to invest and rebuild our NHS

As Nigel Farage's party faces a new racism scandal, investigations reveal how Nigel Farage and his senior colleagues have long cultivated extremist allies and promoted their far-right ideas
Of all the many evil betrayals I’ve seen in the last 60 years I’ve been alive, I’m struggling to think of any that match what Trump and Musk did to innocent Ukrainian citizens while Putin was sending missiles this way. A trio to live on in infamy well after I am gone

Let’s just say he would say that, wouldn’t he, given his cosy & lucrative relationship with Russia, who swore to undermine the EU?
