I don't pretend that this is some sort of brilliant political analysis on my part, but you've got to wonder if Eby had held off dropping the writ, would the post-US midterms transition rein in some of Trumps worst economic impulses and lead to *some* overall improvement to QoL in BC households?

Whatever the thinking was, Eby was convinced that whatever was going to happen in the next two years was *so* bad for the NDP (let alone the province) that it was worth gambling everything here and now for a shot at gaining two MORE years in the future. What a joke.

This is the most remarkable story Ray Bradbury ever shared with me. He told it to me late one night, sitting in his den of antiquities and mementos. Take five minutes to read this. It’s pure magic. #Writing #Living #Creativity #RayBradbury #BookSky

👀 The CBC has spoken to two high-level sources with direct knowledge who confirm a deal has been reached that will merge MLAs currently with Centre B.C. with Conservative Party MLAs. Lorne Doerkson will lead the party and candidates will run under the Conservative banner.

Also, I've decided that driving in Tuscany is a hell of a lot more enjoyable than driving in Provence. Tuscans tailgate you two inches from your bumper, but it's a *polite* tailgate. In Provence there are two speeds allowed: exactly the speed limit or 50 above, regardless of road. It's a coin toss.

Travelling around southern France right now and I regret to inform everyone that the AI slop poster scourge has also spread to continental Europe, as it seems every backwater brasserie and u-pick farm has discovered ChatGPT simultaneously.

I've seen everyone sharing that US Dialect Quiz so I decided to make my own, much crappier, CANADIAN DIALECT QUIZ to guess where in Canada you're from

I generally don't believe in taking pictures of strangers without their consent, but there's a woman on this bus with a giant hair clip in the shape of the vial of llama transformation potion from The Emperor's New Groove and I dearly wish I could share this visually with as many people as possible.

in fairness, i can see why N. Biggar might want a little leeway here specifically

A Scottish Tory peer has spoken out in defence of using the N-word. Nigel Biggar argued in a blogpost that it is 'stupidly unjust' for people to be punished for using the N-word if they did not mean it in a racist way. Read more: www.thenational.scot/news/2...

Here’s my video on Ken Sim’s plebiscite announcement today. I asked the mayor for a *specific law* that he wanted changed and strengthened if this passed, and I encourage you to watch for his answer.

Years ago I coined the milleneuve, which is a unit to measure how horrible the sky color is based on Villeneuve films. Blade Runner 2049 is around 900mn. Today is around 250 I'd say. (It's a very scientific scale.)

Bordeaux, France, has now recorded more days above 40°C in 2026 alone than during the entire 105-year period from 1920 (when observations began) to 2025. This is deeply shocking.

say what you will about AI, always-on voice recording and auto dictation has been a game changer for my workflows. Save post and close app. Yeah Footlong meatball sub on white. No veggies. Don't toast it. Ranch and barbecue sauce. Yeah, ranch and bargecue sauce. More. More. Little more please

fellow millennials, let's take a second to appreciate how great it feels to be in the prime marketing demographic catered to by all of the culture. I get now why boomers wanted it to last forever

Gillian Anderson has officially revealed the upcoming 1,478-piece LEGO set for THE X-FILES. The set is centered on Mulder’s office, paired with a forest clearing scene and a hovering UFO. Includes 8 minifigures, featuring Mulder, Scully, The Flukeman & more. August 4.

Pulp Fiction, The Big Lebowski, Tangerine - in that order. It's relevant that each features a whole lot of meandering driving (it's LA, after all) to get to people's houses where Things Go Horribly Sideways, and it's made pretty clear that life is more about the journey than it is the destination

Messi is just insane. His little legs shuffling along until suddenly he's a burst of speed and he's making a pitch-perfect cross into the 18 yard box. Neither of the goals are his and yet ARG wouldn't be here without him. #WorldCup

Here's a niche post for the Vancouver urbanists on Bluesky: I listened to a brief interview with Michael Geller this afternoon and now I can't unhear that his voice is basically a gender-swapped Moira Rose. You're welcome.

Look if you think it’s fine for Trump to corruptly get a red card revoked (or “suspended”) bc FIFA is already corrupt, maybe you understand the MAGA mindset better than you think. “All politicians are corrupt so it’s ok for Trump to be corrupt” is a very common maga rationalization
