Frodo, daydreaming about Cheese through the whole meeting… “Will you take the Ring to Mount Doom young Hobbit?” …snaps out of his revery and says “err… Yes! Yes I will” without having a clue what he’s just agreed to.

The Lord of the Rings is essentially a series of faculty meetings broken up by several long walks in the countryside.

"This could have been an email." Aragorn whispers. "He ALWAYS pulls this shit in 'Any Other Business" Boromir replies, quietly. "It's why Faramir marked himself as busy when the invite went out."

This ad was on @channel4.bsky.social tonight. Literally incredible. How does a major company approve an ad that encourages faking and cheating at work?

KetAnthropic JoshAI@ketanjoshi.co

The first genuinely honest ad for generative AI I've ever seen, from Microsoft / CoPilot A mediocre white guy sees his non-white colleague getting praised for good work, he asks AI to *literally copy it*, and then he gets all the praise instead: www.ispot.tv/ad/SoDi/micr...

Intrigued by the 'short' in 'short book'. How long - or short - is the text? Perhaps just a few pages? Or a few paragraphs? Or just one?

The Bank of England may not have destroyed Truss’s career, but self-knowledge could still destroy Truss. inews.co.uk/opinion/liz-...

At New Street station, on the train to Moseley Village. It has two carriages, is a local service. People waiting for the train to Edinburgh, leaving from the same platform in a little while, keep getting on. If they don't get off before this train leaves, they are in for a surprise/disappointment.

Trying a latte from "Joe and the Juice" for the first time, partially as first order through the app is free. Said app is over the top. I am having an "experience" but I feel more like Alan Partridge from that recent sketch. Also, their menu has some scary prices.

Did the #My9Albums thing. Not easy; on a different day I'd pick a New Order album over Frankie Goes to Hollywood. Maybe Rio by Duran Duran. And more Boards of Canada (I restrained myself); Boc Maxima wins out over Music Has The Right To Children because Whitewater > Rue the Whirl. It'll do.

Spoke with a homeless Ghanaian man at Berlins main train station last month, and his biggest frustration was being blocked from the job market. He was absolutely desperate to work. But to women like this, he’s just “Ghana town”.

Navi is a deserved recipient. If news of the Nobel Peace Prize induces a fatal aneurysm in you-know-who, then *chef's kiss*.

News that surely will make Trump go in toddler tantrum mood 😂 Navi Pillay, head of UN commission that accused Israel of genocide, wins Nobel Peace Prize | The Times of Israel share.google/Nk6j8xu6twB2...

Anne Carson is the first Nobel Laureate in Literature who I know owns a book by me, as I gave her one of my poetry books when we read together in the midst of Covid in Reykjavík. She was very friendly. They say you should never meet your heroes, but it couldn't have been a nicer experience.

When we see the excess deaths from record-breaking temperatures we shouldn't be shy in saying those journalists who knowingly lied and obfuscated about climate change until there was nothing we could do about it have blood on their hands the same way Nazi propagandists did.

My God. It’s takes something special for me to have more sympathy for Rees-Mogg than his interviewer.

The Tennessee Holler @thetnholler.bsky.social

Tucker: “I never understood why 🇬🇧 fought World War 2?” 😕 Rees-Mogg: “It was good vs. evil…We did the right thing…” Tucker: “Has 🇬🇧 benefitted?” RM: “We defeated Hitler… We’d all be speaking German…” Tucker: “Who cares?” 🤔

Today was another good day for a walk or two around the nearby park, with pleasant wildlife including swans, ducks, geese and smaller avian friends. And squirrels. So many squirrels.

When I'm on my way to a spa weekend I am reminded of that etiquette bloke's tacky list. In the next 24 hours I'm absolutely guaranteed to: 1. Eat on a train 2. Use a hot tub and 3. Drink prosecco. I'm not much of a one for pudding but I'll try and get salted caramel in too.

Never mind the Beatles comparisons, Oasis are just an inferior version of The Charlatans, without the Hammond organ, but with added cocaine.

Overheard: "Of course it's possible! If John Major and Edwina Curry can have a years long affair, ANYTHING is possible!" That brought back memories of the day we all went "what?!"
