We acknowledge that no one has the bandwidth for this, but if it helps: -It’s ‘sleight of hand’ -It’s ‘bated breath’ -It’s ‘lo and behold’ -It's 'buck naked' -It’s ‘brass tacks’ -It’s ‘free rein’ -It’s ‘toe the line'

Three years ago, my dad said that all fish are the same shape. Out of spite, I decided to draw all 478 families of bony fish listed in Nelson 2016. There's still some stuff I need to edit and some fish I want to redraw but, after 985 days, I finished my big dumb fish project last night.

Aberfan was a thing you were told about, growing up in Wales in the Seventies, but with no real context. The older you get, the more you learn, and the more you learn, the angrier you get. Working class lives treated as expendable. Same as Senghenydd. No Health & Safety for the poor. R.I.P. the 144.

The problem with the otherwise-powerful "skull and crossbones" icon is that it's too easy to imply that it is a *personal* danger, like a poison. This will kill YOU.

In conjunction with other semiotics, like a skull and crossbones, obviously. Use in place of the "fire exit" guy [which further implies "only you are in danger", btw]

Though thinking about it, it's all a bit of a moot point; no sign in the world can counter human curiosity when presented with a powder that glows blue in the dark. We have evolved to fail by default in some scenarios.

To convey "this will kill others", maybe some sort of iconography of three stick men lying prone on their backs on a floor around a sphere/circle/skull/exclamation mark. Hard to make that a symbol rather than an illustration, I realise, but I think it's doable.

Late to the party as usual. Spot the point at which I decide I want to be a bassist, and the point at which the teenage angst settles in for the long haul.

EVERY UK MP needs to read this You are all part of a government that is creating a situation so hostile and unsafe that people are leaving the country This is not an isolated case. You have the power to do something about this.

Ooh, it's The Police! Repeat chorus to fade... (Honestly, go check out how many of their songs ended this way. It's mental) #totp

I can't believe that I put my life savings on a bet that I wouldn't hear a worse song than Scooch tonight. Now what the hell am I going to do?!? #totp

The BBC of yesteryear gave me so much. So, so much. Like many, It's shaped my life to an immeasurable degree. But it's time to take a stand.

NEW | I’m not surprised, but I am livid. BBC NEWS, ‘DANNY TOMMO’ AND THE DINGHY ATTACK THAT DISAPPEARED While the rest of the media – even the very worst parts – report on Daniel Thomas’ actions, BBC News fails to give its audience the facts. brokenbottleboy.substack.com/p/bbc-news-d...

I always get a brief moment of personal alarm when I read headlines like these, until I remember that I'm now in my 50s so unlikely to get conscripted. And then I remember that if push came to shove, I could probably be stuffed into three or four sandbags.

What I want is a TV documentary channel entirely devoted to documentaries with no quick-cut montages of everything about to happen, which don't give a fuck about keeping my attention, presented by extremely knowledgeable people in a terrible mood who have no interest in trying to make me like them

Coming back to these, as I've just bought some. My excitement was immediately tempered upon opening the packet, to be greeted with the unmistakeably awful smell of a well exercised wet dog. Couldn't get past it to try one. Straight in the bin. 🤢

Paul Putner@realpaulputner.bsky.social

Curse you, Jacobs! I'm supposed to be cutting down on cheesy comestibles of this ilk, and then you bring out these delicious bastards.

3rd worst wet dog smell, after: 2: "Secretions Magnifique", a perfume by Etat Libre d'Orange 1: Wet dogs. Probably didn't need to itemise that, tbh.

One for my few US followers. Though hopefully you already know how pernicious Flock is, and how vulnerable it is to systematic abuse, to your detriment.

John Tomlinson@johntomlinson.bsky.social

'Police are routinely searching the Flock database without providing any legitimate justification, making a mockery of our civil liberties by logging reasons like "LOL" (short for “laugh out loud”), "LMAO" (short for "laughing my ass off"), "sexy," and "idk"...' www.eff.org/deeplinks/20...

They should have taken the opportunity to combine the Stanford Prison Experiment, the Stanford Marshmallow Experiment, and the Stanford Linear Accelerator into a show where people assigned as guards or prisoners are repeatedly bombarded with either one marshmallow now or two marshmallows later.

DiscussingFilm@discussingfilm.net

Netflix has announced a new reality series titled ‘THE NEW STANFORD PRISON EXPERIMENT’. The series follows 30 participants who enter a real prison and are randomly assigned as guards or prisoners. They must see if they conform to the roles or if morality wins.

Anyone thinking that Piddington is a lovely little village story and what japes, needs to watch this.

Roland Smith@rolandmcs.bsky.social

Very nice to hear a sane voice from Piddington. Serious respect to this woman, who is apparently already being othered by more bigoted villagers.
