The NBA has reached deals with Kalshi and Polymarket to make them the league's preferred prediction markets partners. The companies can now use NBA IP on their platforms, while the NBA gets right of approval on markets that they offer. That and more: www.nytimes.com/athletic/772...
The thing about Zuckerberg's idea of Everything Platforms is that they inevitably become the most watered down malls of lowest-common-denominator content and community. Nothing makes Facebook Facebook or Instagram Instagram; they just exist to imitate and absorb their competitors.
Instagram is testing Features, a new long-form horizontal video format of up to 90 minutes aimed at podcasters, comedians, and other creators, in the US (Caitlin Huston/The Hollywood Reporter) Main Link | Techmeme Permalink
I'd like to know what equivalent to Sorkin's West Wing mythos of journalism and politics the mainstream media like the BBC subscribe to when they do stuff like this constantly.
BBC News just interrupted its coverage to go, live, to Nigel Farage - a man with no contitutional standing in our setup - responding to the budget - a document which nobody has seen yet. WHY

In his talk at Princeton, @marcelias.bsky.social noted that the election suppression he worried about was less ICE at the polls and more ICE putting up traffic checkpoints and other things that made access to the polls much harder. And it looks like we’re seeing a version of that in Brazil.

After Hungary and Poland, Serbia becomes the third Central/Eastern European country in few years where massive youth mobilization has contributed to the electoral defeat of the ruling autocratic party.
Serbia: The Serbian Progressive Party (SNS-EPP) has admitted defeat in today's parliamentary elections. The Student List (SL-*) has won a majority of votes. #Serbia #Srbija #Izbori2026

Bolsonaro-friendly mayors appear to be sabotaging public transport on Election Day. Buses aren’t running in Lula-friendly areas, flights and ferries mysteriously canceled. Traffic lights have gone out and people’s power cut in Salvador, indigenous people’s travel restricted
We are watching a coup d’état attempt unfold in real time in Brazil. I’m consumed by desperation.

Hearing report after report. Bolsonaro’s allies are doing everything they can to suppress the vote. It’s the engine of fascism in action.
Grim stories from Brazil. Indigenous voters going to the city a day early because they don’t trust their state not to cut off their travel routes on election day: www.instagram.com/reel/De4z6kP... - while many flights to the north east, a pro-Lula region, have been cancelled without explanation.

BBC report sanitises the overt racism: It notes that organisers warned marchers not to talk to journalists, then gives the "anti-immigration group"'s own sanitised description of itself. It does not report they chanted "England for the white man" in the streets. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Very amusing that the plot for the latest season of Slow Horses is based on the esoteric idea that high-ranking government officials taking foreign money to fund their political machinations would be a five-alarm scandal legally tantamount to treason.
Wild that the Trump family is very clearly in the pocket of multiple(!) foreign dictators and apparently nobody even cares. This used to be the stuff of taut thrillers, now it's just oh there's Jared doing bribe stuff again

Krugman is a liberal economist but even still 10 years ago I couldn't imagine him calling for expropriation and (temporary) nationalization of a major company. What stage of capitalism is this? paulkrugman.substack.com/p/its-time-t...

I think the main thing to takeaway from this is that there is a non-zero chance of parents ending up with insane surprise bills from Xbox Cloud Gaming, because the most expensive subscription caps playtime to 15h/mo. Beyond that, you have to pay an undisclosed price per unit of additional playtime.

A lot of poorly maintained websites are about to get hacked in a really bad way due to this PHP vulnerability. Probably a good idea to tell everyone you know with IT obligations about this. Some websites have been outright taken down to focus on patching this instead of risking any hacks.

Huge follow-up reporting to my scoop: The Guardian confirmed America Next—the conservative nonprofit founded by Bobby Jindal that was offering students $ to disrupt El-Sayed events—paid a firm registered to Tommy Teepell’s dad Timmy $250k for “canvassing and influencer marketing” against El-Sayed.
