The point we need to hammer home is that these people do not want to pay ANY TAXES AT ALL.

Yulia@yuliasilvae.bsky.social

Imagine being worth $239B and crying about paying taxes towards the state you live in and benefit from. Can he not afford it?? #Zuckerberg is a selfish little twerp. #EatTheRich

Wow. This is good. My husband has just finished reading VIP Lane by Russell Scott (published by Byline Books!) and is incandescent with rage about what went on.

Andy Burnham at #PMQs: “Have they had the time to read the Covid inquiry report yesterday about the appalling state of social care as it went into the pandemic? “I need no lectures from the other side about taking tough decisions on social care. I suggest they have a period of reflection.”

Universal Basic Income isn't free money. It's a return on the value you've already created. Your labor, data, behavior, and knowledge generate wealth every day. The economy figured out how to monetize you without paying you. That's what needs to change.

Ooh look, the Greens refusing planning permission for a solar farm, because it "didn't look nice". Fucking clowns.

Under Trump, more than 500 Americans have been grabbed off the street and sent to DHS concentration camps. Many have been filmed screaming that they are American citizens. DHS doesn't care; they just toss them into detainment until some family member or lawyer is able to prove their citizenship.

Archer’s resignation from the London mayoral race after it was revealed he lied in court was the thing that got Paul Foot up from his sickbed and contributing again, having first started chronicling Archer’s lies and misdemeanours in 1969. From the Private Eye archive. Issue 992, December 1999.

Precisely this.

The problem is, you can't really say "we condemn this thing" and then only explain in the small print that you are using one particular definition of "this thing" and very specifically not any other definitions, even though a lot of other people use those definitions and will react accordingly.

Its not the people coming into the country on small boats, damp from the experience we need to worry about. It's the billionaires coming into the country on large yachts and private jets, empowered from the experience we really really need to worry about.

For once I'd like a commentator to say "the level of popular upset bears absolutely no relation to the reality of the situation and is cynically exacerbated by opportunistic politicians and editors. The people going out in the streets on this are unemployable racist scum and can get fucked."

Fantastic thread - well worth reading.

🧵 As front-page headlines go, this has to be one of the most misleading I've seen in a long time It's an out-and-out lie But notice the trick they use to get away with it...👀 *They're* not lying - they're just quoting someone else who is👍🏻 In this case, the leader of the opposition🙄 1/33

will say it again: the most effective way to curb far right agitators like Lowe, "Tommo" et. al. would be to stop their ability to earn money for it from social media or live streaming. So much of it is grifting for revenue, not attention.

Here's Rupert Lowe MP's payments from X Corp over the past year. This man is making serious cash from Musk's platform. Payments surged over the summer, during UK 'unrest', and when Musk was frantically re-sharing Lowe's posts... Bleak, lucrative work if you can get it.

"Chants of 'let them drown' sung by a child over a megaphone" surely must be the moment this UK Government realises that no form of appeasement or persuasion is going to solve this problem. Ban the platforms spreading the lies, proscribe the groups terrorising the country. Act now, for pity's sake.

Good. Now get all the front bench out saying this.

John Slinger MP@johnslingermp.bsky.social

Well said Bridget Phillipson on BBC Laura Kuenssberg on how disturbing it is “to question people’s British identity on the basis of their skin colour.” The question was in response to Rishi Sunak’s excellent recent @thetimes.com article. We must confront racism.

I have lost confidence in the BBC. Platforming this man without pointing out at any time that he is a) a tax exile in Monaco, so pays ZERO taxes and b) he makes a lot of money from oil.

So much of the right these days have a massive patriotism problem. This guy: - is a tax exile (left long before this govt) - hates his own country while complaining he doesn’t get big enough subsidies from it - laments the manufacturing hit from a Brexit he supported www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
