Muse must feel absolutely magical for people who are actively in the Meta ecosystem and therefore have a lot of context built up there it can pull from (I assume?). For me, it comes across as just another dumb LLM.

(someone at #tpac encouraged me to try it out from a line of questioning I had today, so I did. Now I don't need to anymore)

With me stuck in the house because of my foot and Monopoly at McDonald's, I think I've concocted the best McD's burger: Quarter pounder with cheese, swap mustard and mayo for Big Mac sauce, add Big Mac shredded lettuce, add tomato, swap bun for single hamburger bun.

The QP bun always is a little stale and tough, the original bun is always squishy and perfect. Shredded lettuce > leaf, as is Big Mac sauce vs mustard/ketchup. May do double onions: the real ones and the dehydrated ones

I WILL HAVE HAMBURGER SATISFACTION! It wound up tasting like a backyard burger in the best way possible. Better than just a cheeseburger or a quarter pounder. To replicate: Hamburger, add shredded lettuce and tomato, no beef, no sauces QPC: no bun, no sauces Side Big Mac sauce

"There's no gap in the rules to point to. I didn't follow your written requirements" Alignment. It's not just to prevent doing crimes.

It's really incredibly frustrating that in order to use WebRTC—ostensibly a peer-to-peer API without the need for an intermediary—you need at least 3 intermediaries. Can we get a Rev 2 spec that makes signaling/ICE/Stun/TURN servers obsolete? Or can we build some of these directly into the browser?

Canada, what is this nonsense of everything being closed and people actually having off on national holidays?! It's very un-American of you.

After a decade at Cloudinary, I am looking work. I'm a web developer who's done a lot of devrel, too. I'm good at the front of the front end, great at browsers and standards and deeply understanding and explaining technical topics, and the stem of my T-shaped skills is: "images, on the internet".

I'm astounded at how absolute shit Claude is at UI design and how good Gemini is (at least in comparison). My current setup is stand alone mocks with Gemini, Claude for implementation, and Claude calling Gemini for prose.

I was recommended to try Claude Design after posting this. Tried it out, it didn't do well designing from scratch but it did do well revising Gemini designs, better than Gemini could manage, so that's my workflow for right now

Building a complex benchmark today, Model A has spent literally all day building it out, I kept not trusting it's results, asked Model B to check Model A's work. It hadn't built a benchmark tool, it just churned tokens for 5 hours to fake or hardcode a bunch of nonsense. Love AI.

Also had Model B confidently tell me I couldn't test with Framework X because it doesn't support the thing I'm benchmarking, which of course is THE THING Framework X is known for doing.

If I went to Switzerland and won a Swiss watch precision contest, I would literally never talk about anything else

Katie Mack@astrokatie.com

I went to Geneva a few weeks ago and spoke on a panel about the nature of time for a Geneva Watch Days event. While I was there, on a lark, I entered a competition to most precisely calibrate a Swiss watch. And today I found out that I won! 😃 www.instagram.com/reel/Dd6hUTB...

"Yes boss, found the bug, this thing that's hardcoded as `true` saves as `false`. Rewriting the entire codebase to work around that bug" Couldn't you just fix that bug so it saves as true? "Yes boss, smaller fix, much better, reverting my changes"

Anyone have an illustrator who has open commissions for a (hopefully) quick bit of work? Would love a few sketchy (not refined, literally like quick sketch) Goblin drawings for a little 1-pager game I put together.

I like this guy as an example of the kinda goblins I want: kinda goofy kinda menacing. Happy to have y'all take inspiration from the descriptions of the goblins and have fun with them. If you've got samples of a similar style to what I want, DMs open! skylandgames.wordpress.com/2012/08/04/u...

Lufthansa may be the most infuriating major airline I've ever needed to deal with. They've gone all in on AI for support but their basic digital systems are all uterly broken, leading to needing to talk to a human to accomplish anything through a maze that tries it's best to keep you from them.

Hey look at that! A mere 81 hours _after_ the 24 hours Lufthansa said it would take for my receipt to show up in my inbox, it finally did! Surely there's a German word for this

This is a terrible time for systems thinkers, in part because nobody wants to listen to systems thinkers about stuff they’ve been saying for years, so now systems thinkers have to watch deeply incurious people reinvent systems thinking from first principles

The "Apple Intelligence" update to Siri has turned it from useless aging abandonware into exactly the amount of useless I expect from a modern chat agent so improvement I guess?

Had to audibly talk myself out of some of my perfectionist tendencies today so I could get something launched. Or, I guess put another way, "I think my biggest flaw is that I just care too much."

My current conspiracy theory: the press release about Anthropic changing words in Claude output to make it easier to detect generated text is really a psyop to cover for the fact that Fable writes like an alien who's just discovered the concept of language is and is "trying it out" on English.

Gemini is _so much better at writing_ than Claude and it's not even close. Everything I get out of Claude reeks of AI slop. Gemini typically just needs some light editing. Writing code, on the other hand...

Swapped back to Opus 4.8 from 5 this morning on a personal project and the difference is night an day: 4.8 is faster, more accurate, follows instructions better, and is generally less frustrating.

This doesn't mean they're not _useful_, it just means you shouldn't trust them to do work or make decisions on their own. I mostly extend this to AI agents in general.

How is it possible that ice cream shops don't put chocolate magic shell in the bottom of their cones? This feels like a no-brainer.

Canada, I've besmirched your good name unjustly. Your Ritz crackers aren't worse than American Ritz crackers, Ritz crackers have just gotten worse!

I've gotta tell y'all a secret: if you're upset about Claude's writing getting watermarked, it means you've never read anything it's written. AI writing is so painfully obvious to anyone who actually reads it _today_ that this feels like a no-op for those who care about output quality.

I'm finding I don't just want, but _need_ an LLM and agent pair that isn't designed to be a "helpful assistant" because that framing fundamentally breaks some use cases

Snugug@snugug.bsky.social

Yeah I definitely see that. I think I'm also starting to see product decisions that are reinforcing some particular while making others harder—go code this, great, go summarize a bunch of text, great, as an interactive rubber duck, really quite frustrating.

I've got a blog post cooking in my head about how I tend to hold technology "wrong" and how that's affected how I see AI tools versus some of my peers.

Showed a personal project to a coworker yesterday and their first question was "what's the backend?" Was very proud to say nope, full static site, with some clever offline first engineering for the app bit. I think people seriously underestimate how far you can go with no/low JS today.

I'm also seeing coding agents making offline first and off main thread site patterns much easier to implement (even if you need to force them along) which IMO can be a win for the web if we can make their generation more reliable.
