I really appreciate how well paid I am on one of my contracts. It certainly makes the infuriating micromanaging and hypocrisy worth it. (Seriously)

Between tick & tock lies a dislocated hour. Home to things with names too terrible to say. In the lost hours, in the gained hours, temporal spirits come through. Between tick and tock, some swear they can hear a soul trapped in time, scratching at glass. #ClocksGoBack

I just saw a post about an “unalived deer on property” and I’m sure it’s to get around an algorithm but I also appreciate they’re trying not to upset any deer on Facebook who have lost loved ones to suicide.

I walk in autumn's boneyards feeling more sympathy for the grave guardians than I do for the corpses in them. Time, weather and man are all their brutalisation. Many will speak for the dead, but few give voice to their faithful lithic lookouts. They need a union. – #DAKilroy, 1982

I just want to say, too, from a place of deep and abiding grief, that Florida once had fact-based government that served communities and had good land management. It took so little to tear all of that apart once the rightwing and developers took control.

I love my child and she will always have a home with me, but her teenage mean streak is exhausting. And it's a noticeable meaness that other people, including her therapist, regularly comment on. I am emotionally and physically tired of the constant degrading.

one reason you should ignore the polls and vote no matter what is not that they’re wrong—the averages usually aren’t, especially this close to election day. it’s that polls inherently cannot fully account for republican voter suppression.

I love how much of our economy is the bong's "for tobacco use only" wink & nudge. It's not a taxi; it's a rideshare. 😉 It's not a hotel; it's a room rental. 😉 It's not gambling; it's a prediction market. 😉 It's not slavery; it's inmate labor. 😉 What else am I forgetting?

Either Thriller or the Skeksis from the Dark Crystal. I don't remember which was first, but I have distinct memories of those two things.

I need ambitious municple councils to STOP TRYING TO MAKE ROUNDABOUTS WORK IN AMERICA. We understand two things here: Ego and fate. Neither of those works well with a roundabout! We can’t do them! Stop trying to make us!

I know there are moral arguments to be made about the death penalty but I think the practical ones are stronger. It doesn’t work as a deterrent and is torture. If you have a torture system as punishment, you cannot have a functioning society.

shutting down frat houses won't end rape culture, but it will disorganize a lot of rapists, and i think that's probably worth doing if only to destabilize what is apparently an ecology of organizations that functionally exist to rape women per the whole "purpose of a system is what it does" insight.

I literally don’t know a single woman who hasn’t been raped, stalked, groped, harassed, or sexually violated in some way at some point in their life. If you choose to doubt and dox survivors, just know every woman in your life is disgusted by you.

One of the shittiest things about intimate partner violence is that sometimes in the moment, you truly don't fully understand it is happening. You are confused, or ill informed, and it's not until much later that it becomes clear. And then you feel like it's too late to do something.

Read both these threads.

I managed to mostly not know any of this until today. This detail is new to me. The horror coursing through my body feels like poison. My God, men. Decide RIGHT FUCKING NOW what you'll do if a woman is sexually harassed or assaulted in your vicinity. Ask another man to do the same. TALK ABOUT IT.
