JetBlue reporting a $257M net loss for Q3, including a $144M operating loss. Revenue up to $2.8bn, (+$490M YoY), while OpEx increased by $534M. Only $329M of that was fuel. Salaries and landing fees were another $100M higher. "Other" was up $57M. $JBLU

My experiences on American Airlines are very mixed but their cold salmon protein plate is one of the most consistent domestic US airlines dishes I’ve had. It’s tasty, it’s filling, and it’s healthier than a lot of the other options.

I am simply devastated by the loss of @jaredwsmith.com. Jared was one of my closest, oldest friends. Since learning of his passing yesterday, I have been sifting through old files, thinking about the many memories I will have of Jared, and deciding how best to talk about it. What I came up with:

patrickokeefe.comJared W. Smith, 1984-2026There is a story that Jared W. Smith and I have told several times, usually when one of us was meeting someone for the first time, while the other was there. We've told it to random people, to his cow...

Airports trying to “keep up” is a function of there being more air traffic at the airports, which last time I checked, the federal government can control.

Doing some math on the Daher Kodiak takeoff from the Willamette River. The Hawthorne Bridge has a clearance of 49 feet at its highest point when closed. The Kodiak is 15 feet, 3 inches tall (with wheels, not pontoons). That’s ~34 feet of clearance from the bridge if he was on the water.

Let’s say he was 20 feet of the water, his clearance was ~14 feet. That’s basically zero room for error. Watching the video over and over, I think the pilot expect to get off the water sooner and didn’t.

The main reg that would cover this is 91.113, and that gives a carve out for landings and take offs.

Absolutely wild takeoff where the pilot chose to clear the Hawthorne bridge by going underneath it!

i have lived here my whole life, and i have never once seen a plane take off from the Willamette… …let alone do THIS. wtf.

I didn’t realize Des Moines Airport (DSM) was getting a new head house and terminal with six gates, but they are. Old terminal stays and will be connected to new terminal via a bridge post-security. Should open in January 2027.

Watching people attempt to put their cowboy boots back on after security at DFW is all the entertainment I need tonight. I think they need to install some shoe horns.

One thing that has annoyed me with engaging public agencies on pedestrian safety is the insistence that pedestrians need to be safer. Rather than fix a very dangerous crossing I was told "the neighborhood could install flag buckets and the pedestrians could hold them while they cross"

"I too would like a quagmire, but make mine on water"

Everyone is talking about the redesigned US passport front cover and the box it will be delivered in but can we talk about the interior pages?

I'm convinced the people who designed these pages have never received a stamp in their passport. Almost all stamps are black or red or a mix of both. They will be basically unreadable on these pages.

I feel dumb even just having to say this but the reason passports are mailed out in plain regular envelopes is that so that people do not attempt to steal easily recognizable passports in the mail. bsky.app/profile/carn...

I love that the U.S. government now has ideas so dumb that the fact checks are simply “yeah this isn’t a parody, it’s real”

Thoughts on the new trains: Great! But... Amtrak needs to figure out the bike situation in the Airo Trains. As it stands now, the new trains have 6 checked bike spaces, and conductors have said that half of the bikes will need a front wheel removed to get them to both fit.

Two callouts, Atlas Air and The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. 1) is this just execs going back and forth from White Plains to Anchorage? 2) I just find this one odd. They’re doing enough corp business to get a shoutout but it raises more questions than answers.

The MAX 10s with the premium config will also get the "Aurora" livery treatment. No Chester on the tail if you get the better seats on board.

My personal opinion, watching F-16s intercept little Cessnas that are doing 90 kts across the ground is way too entertaining.

Air Traffic Control was actively directing planes into the TFR airspace because they had no visibility of the TFR either. 15 planes violated the TFR, 10 were intercepted.

So Port of Portland and PDX very loudly stated they wouldn’t have the Kristi Noem TSA/DHS video playing but they very quietly started showing the Markwayne Mullin video.

If you are planning to “walk in” to Costco for an immunization, just note that in Portland, they don’t actually take walk-ins after 5pm. They seem to arbitrarily apply this rule…
