I rewatched The Dark Knight Rises last night, and love the nods to the 60s tv show. The simple one: Batman saving the day by flying away with the bomb echoes 60s Batman running down the street holding the bomb. The more obscure and funny one is in the opening action sequence with Bane...

We all know the "Viggo broke his toe" story but what's another movie fact you're personally compelled to bring up every time without prompting? For me, it's the fact that Robin Tunney is wearing a wig in The Craft because of having just shaved her head to save her job filming Empire Records.

...In the dramatic shot where Bane and random guy are holding on while the plane falls away, they're both just (unusually crude) plastic dummies attached to the rope. We don't notice because we're busy watching the plane fall away - but it's a funny nod to the crap plastic shark from the tv show:

The backstory: Ukrainian drones struck a Yandex supercomputer facility in Vladimir, taking it out. Suddenly, bot activity in US social media fell by 49%, confirming suspicions that this was the site of a massive Russian influence operation targeting US social media—mostly targeting MAGA.

Years late to the party, but am finally playing / am slightly addicted to Frostpunk. Good innit. Looking forward to moving onto the sequel and The Alters once I've figured this one out

Breaking news: this man is boring

Consultant Christian Fonnesbech questions the logic of switching main characters for a game's sequel. "Let's think back: what would Tomb Raider look like today if game two had been about Lara's brother?" https://bit.ly/4hsZTeg

Sigh - I loved Grand Theft Auto back in the day, and now I'm wistfully daydreaming of parallel universe where they didn't kill the franchise by changing the protagonist every time, and GTA games are still popular enough to be made in 2026

Jumpscare from my phone beeping at me with a UK national wildfire warning, while I'm deep into prototyping a wildfire scene for my dystopian sci-fi game

What were you looking at on your phone when you got that wildfire alert? I was looking at Michael Shannon’s IMBD page.

Hey pals, one of my contracts wraps up in September, so I'm looking for new writing, narrative design, and creative direction contracts, short or longer term. Remote, most timezones except Australia. Preferably USA (I'm a night owl!). Flexible on days per week. Reach out! 💜 hannahnicklin.com

I'm sure some felt it dragged on, but I left The Odyssey wishing it was 15 minutes longer. "If we're doing 2h53m, why not do 3h10m and give everything more time to breathe and develop?" Answer: Nolan wanted a longer film, but there is a hard, physical 3hr limit on IMAX reels / projection:

So I suspect a lot was reluctantly left on the cutting room floor for this one, and unfortunately I think it shows in the film, and hurts it a bit. Nolan doesn't do director's cuts, but in this case I feel like an extended Final Cut on blu-ray etc would serve the film very well in the long term

I suspect this kind of thing is fairly typical, and speaks to the huge gulf between all the stuff game designers have thought about and explored during the process of making the game, and what is evident to outsiders in the final implementation

kinda shocking they were already aware / thinking like this in 1996, from the earliest days of free cam 3D games (from shmuplations.com/miyamotoxeno/ )

GTA6 has been in development for 12 years. It took the Beatles 8 years to go from their first single, through releasing all their music, to splitting up.

Also infuriating knowing that when you post real comments and replies to your audience, some people will assume you just pressed the AI button anyway, and you now have to put extra effort into writing in a way that people know wouldn't be generated by AI

Always loved this kind of thing, but my favourite is Tekken 3's attract demo - seemed like an amazing leap forward at the time:

Everybody in the "climate space" (which means everyone on earth...) needs to understand these mind-blowing figures. Google's "total electricity consumption jumped from 31 terawatt hours (TWh) in 2024 to 43 TWh in 2025." In ONE year. The AI corporate arms race is eating the world.

KetAnthropic JoshAI@ketanjoshi.co

NEW BLOG FOR YOU Google's energy consumption numbers in their new climate report are mind-blowing. 2 years ago they flipped from linear to exponential growth, and their climate impact is blowing out, too. A WILD testament to the obscene bloat and waste of GenAI: ketanjoshi.co/2026/07/01/g...

The PS2 game collection I salvaged from my parents' place outweighs the few PS1 games I was able to find, unfortunately. (Will eventually give in and turn to ebay to fill it out with things like Time Crisis, Point Blank, Tekken 2+3, Gran Turismo, the rest of the Wipeout games, Die Hard Trilogy...)

In honour of Sony physical games I present these six. Did you play any?

Re: the PS2 games: A) Don't know where my copy of Rez went, who nicked it B) Remember when Rockstar were pressured into renaming Bully, and they were so beyond having to give a shit that they decided to give it a new name IN LATIN

If the winds are in our favor, the window might be closing on your chance to wishlist one of these games before it gets a real name. It's the only way to let Steam know you are cool.
