It’s inaccurate to say Mario is brave and Luigi is cowardly Luigi is afraid of death, so he runs away from danger. Mario is afraid of living, so he runs towards death. Both brothers are cowards in their own way

Two papers came out last week that suggest classical asymmetric cryptography might indeed be broken by quantum computers in just a few years. That means we need to ship post-quantum crypto now, with the tools we have: ML-KEM and ML-DSA. I didn't think PQ auth was so urgent until recently.

words.filippo.ioA Cryptography Engineer’s Perspective on Quantum Computing TimelinesThe risk that cryptographically-relevant quantum computers materialize within the next few years is now high enough to be dispositive, unfortunately.

Another massive battery storage record in California (CAISO) yesterday, March 29 🔋 At 7pm, batteries reached 12.3 GW of output, meeting 42.8% of demand! And it's not just a short peak anymore. Batteries stayed above 20% of grid supply from 5.50pm to 9.35pm, almost four hours.

I don't like the “This Is Not The Computer For You” article that everyone is fawning over. I think the author's heart is in the right place, but the article's very pessimistic about what the web can do. it also has an unaddressed conflict between computing to tinker vs computing to access my bank

When someone says „Scientists do not want you to know“ you can dismiss everything from there on. Scientists want you to know. They are desperate that you know. They can’t shut up about what they found out and want you to know.

Heartwarmed and flattered by a new crop of folks getting into Caves of Qud on Switch. If you're having trouble with how deranged it is at the start, please stick with it: it gets much worse

This is, like, a couple kilobytes of text. It should *not* be such a huge amount that you have to break core browser features to optimize around.

Important paper. Schools are high-risk environments for respiratory disease transmission MAINLY because classrooms are underventilated. This problem has a workable solution - it just needs political will. Air quality is as important as water quality for public health. MT @martinmckee.bsky.social
