Everything Musk does lacks creativity and curiosity. He copies others, he steals from others, and in cases like this, he lazily accuses his opponents of doing exactly what he is doing. He’s mentally bankrupt; and I wish there was a governing body willing to neuter his obscene power.

I appreciate that you're reflecting on this critically, but personally I'm not moved by calls for nuance on this issue anymore, because I don't think the criticisms are unnuanced. I don't think the concepts of statistical inference of vector databases are what anybody fundamentally takes issue with.

What if you could play a shitty football simulation with zero name recognition and the ability to do popular off-field activities like lying to your teammates about your vaccinations and being a guest on Pat McAfee’s show.

Thanks for reminding me of how naive I was reading Gladwell’s books 15 years ago.

“In recent years, many Americans have decided that their country’s problem was that it had too many police officers, when in fact its problem was that it had too few,” Malcolm Gladwell writes:

This is just my opinion, but if you are an experienced beekeeper, you don’t need guns to achieve your desired outcomes. Statham should be running around with balloons filled with pollen.

Given that 6/10 number includes people who still think he isn’t a criminal, that means at least half the people polled are a detriment to saving our democracy. Mainstream media and the Democratic party leadership aren’t doing any favors by consistently softening their language when discussing Trump.

While I don’t consider myself a doomer, I consider the future of the US to be bleak. I still vote, I still attempt to encourage and educate others around me, and most importantly, I increasingly make efforts to be offline, engage with others, and do things that make others happy.

It doesn’t change my feeling that the US is going to get worse before it gets better and that’s primarily because there far too many in power with an appetite for fascism (Republicans) or lack of an appetite for enforcing true accountability (Democratic leadership).

With that said, I also get where the doomers are coming from. Since 2015, there has been a constant barrage of “hey, this seems like a problem, we should do something” being met with a significant wall of friction saying “lol, that’s not possible. There are rules, norms, etc.”

Fast forward a few days/weeks/months and those rules and norms are obliterated. For people keeping up on current events and witnessing those subversions of democracy, becoming a doomer is understandable especially when the media rarely focuses on the instances where democracy is upheld.

This post was a hot topic yesterday (as have variations in the past), and I get where the OP is coming from because it won’t get better if you’re unable to be constructive and put in the effort. bsky.app/profile/chri...

I said this in a thread last night and in a thousand threads before it, but you really are doing the work of those who would destroy democracy and the rule of law when you are a doomer. You can be aware of — and vigorously oppose — the lawlessness of this administration without insisting on doom.

He could have written a lot less by saying: 1. I'm fine with using a service that produces CSAM 1. I'm fine with using a service that promotes white nationalists and misogynists 1. I'm fine with using a service where the CEO consistently tweaks its algorithms and AI to bend to his beliefs

Today’s example of “late-stage capitalism is upon us”: I went to the liquor store to pick up a few bottles of wine. They asked if I wanted a box just like any other time in my 20+ years of buying alcohol. They proceeded to ring me up for a store-branded box. So excited for liquor stores to be BYOB.

What a waste of a scholarship. Just pay college players and give scholarships to people who won’t come out of their class saying, “conspiracy theories are real”. I had to double check the article to confirm he actually said 200%. Does he think he can complete 200% of his passes?

People who easily believe bullshit without applying critical thinking are going to believe other bullshit. Just because the other bullshit is less wrong doesn’t escape the issue that they are extremely malleable to the next thing they are told.

Grocery profit margins are razor thin. This policy will lead to an increase in grocery prices. Maybe people are okay with that to keep a particular kind of job around, but we should be clear that this is asking customers to pay more for their family's food to subsidize one small labor sector.
