Seeing A Fish Called Wanda on campus while in college. The stage the screen (it was a temporary theater) was on had a phone that kept ringing. One guy jumped up on stage and ripped the phone out of the wall after that happened a few times. He got a standing ovation.
Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences?
Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.
"I’m less interested in conducting a postmortem of this election and tweaking the Democrats’ tactics than trying to understand how to build a movement—not in reaction to Trump, but toward workers’ power, a just economy, reproductive justice, queer and trans liberation, and ending racism..."

New article! On Trump's plans for America, how we got here, and how to prepare. If you like it, please share, as I am of course shadow-banned on the Bad Site. Thanks! sarahkendzior.substack.com/p/the-end-of...
I'm freaked out but I'm also minding my breath and walking a lot and trying to look other people in the eyes. I was part of a gathering in a bookstore in our #MemoryLaw and #ForcedBirth state just last night (which was encouraging). I'm staying vigilant.
If Christians only bind up disappointment without preaching justice, if we only heal wounds of division without recognizing the moral offense, then we have failed.

Hey everybody!
I’m Aaron Waltke. I’m a screenwriter and showrunner of film and TV on stuff like Star Trek, Trollhunters, DC Comics and Transformers One.
If you like all that — or just want to help me out — I’d appreciate it if you’d give me a follow and a repost as I get settled here on BlueSky!
Feels like a good day to remind everyone that JD Vance was a no-show on the vote for my bill to expand the child tax credit when it was on the senate floor two weeks ago. My bill failed after Republicans blocked it, leaving 16 million kids worse off.
I wrote this piece on a certain kind of observers' craze for "blitz primaries", Thunderdomism and now neo-thunderdomism and the anti-politics it all really represents. talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/the-c...
Reminder: Sure, the student protestors turned out to be right about Vietnam, and gay rights, and apartheid, and the Latin American dirty wars, and the invasion of Iraq -- but *this time* they are cluelessly naive and only protesting to look cool to their friends.
This week, as we celebrate South Carolina's victory and the elevated interest in women's college basketball, I revisit the racist attacks against the Utah women's team in Idaho two weeks ago and why we can't let racist harassment and attacks continue. open.substack.com/pub/ctrlaltr...
"Years ago I recognized my kinship with all living beings, & I made up my mind that I was not one bit better than the meanest on earth... that while there is a lower class, I am in it, & while there is a criminal element, I am of it, & while there is a soul in prison, I am not free." - Eugene Debs
Since we can use unlikely hypotheticals as standing in Texas, who wants to be my lawyer to sue the state for my right to an abortion in accordance with my Jewish faith?
Jonathan Katz exposes the story about a woman being raped from Senator Katie Britt's State of the Union response as a massive lie.
Must see - a fact check no one in the mainstream media picked up.

BECAUSE (say it with me, kids):
Abortion bans are not only a violation of the 14th Amendment, but the 1st Amendment as well. You cannot enshrine one specific religious perspective into law and impose it upon an entire diverse nation of people.
A lawsuit by three Jewish women seeking to overturn Kentucky’s laws banning abortions has gained more attention since in vitro fertilization clinics in Alabama shut down after a state Supreme Court ruling in that state.
It's here! I've been working on this since January: "Tradwives" have been rightly getting a lot of criticism from feminists.
Less discussed: They're largely Christian propaganda.
Meet the people exposing the truth behind the pretty pictures.

This weekend I spent more time than I should have talking about Taylor Lorenz. On Assigned this morning, Alyssa Steinsiek is asking people (including me) to refocus on the queer students who are telling their stories about the school Nex Benedict attended before his death.
For every hour the IRS audits those making more than $10 million, the agency is finding $13,000 of unpaid taxes, according to data in the fine print of a new government report.
There — now you know the real reason the GOP is trying to defund the IRS.
If ‘legal fees’ includes the fines he needs to pay to appeal, the GOP is gonna be having funding problems real soon www.politicususa.com/2024/02/22/l...
Bunch of my commenters are trying to come up w/good Alexander Smirnov limericks (and not just bc I live there).
There once was a fellow named Smirnov
And for him, the truth was a turn-off
He gathered his lies
From GRU spies
Then spun them to credulous jerk-offs

New from me: Elected officials in Michigan hold one of their colleagues accountable for amplifying a racist and antisemitic conspiracy theory. More of this please. open.substack.com/pub/ctrlaltr...
