Much easier for the media to lock in on faux Cheesecake Factory outrage than a House Dem report indicating Todd Blanche basically told Ghislaine Maxwell "stop talking" when she was about to discuss a girl that could more closely tie Trump to Epstein

American institutions (and individuals) have more often than not punished Indigenous children and Black and Brown children— actual children— as adults, while excusing the behavior of white men. But hearing a white man calling his actions at 53 a "youthful indiscretion" really takes the cake.

What's striking to me are the rules of engagement and the methodology of action here, which more or less is predicated on burying liberal delusions about "debate" or the "marketplace of ideas". The rules were ultimately very simple: amplify your own message and suppress your opponent's.

At face, the lack of an ACIP board seems like a DC red tape thing, but this is a sneaky eugenics effort. When vaccines are not recommended by ACIP, they are not covered by insurance or available for free through Medicaid…meaning the most physically and financially vulnerable don’t have access.

Melody Schreiber@melodyschreiber.com

There's no ACIP in the US right now -- and there won't be for the foreseeable future because RFK Jr isn't reconstituting the group. That is already having consequences for new vaccines, which don't have ACIP recommendations. My latest: www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...

As someone with long covid, who has been horribly, chronically, painfully ill since 2020, and whose only advice from doctors has been “don’t ever get covid again” for fear it will make me worse, I’ve been forced to vote in every election for candidates who don’t mask in public, putting me at risk.

As a pwLC, I live in a very surreal world that ignores the fact that Covid is still very much an ongoing threat, that 40% of active COVID infections are asymptomatic. Yet no candidates mask. I could stop voting entirely but I don’t. I vote for the candidate who supports science. That’s my best hope.

No amount of education or attempts at shared empathy will change them. I learned early on not to spend any time engaged with those hardened hearts. (Block and ignore!!) But some people who are wrong are open to change.

MassEquality was a group of LGBTQ people &PFLAG allies like my husband &me. (Parents of a gay son.) Our org spent endless time visiting MA legislators w a “get to know me & my family” message. And they did get to know us, the same way my conservative readers got to know &love my gay characters.

MassEquality’s mission statement was all about changing hearts &minds. And it worked. I’ve had the experience throughout both life &career of taking action &watching as (some) people change. But I’ve also experienced running into a brick wall with certain people who are unmovable in their biases.

I’ve been an LGBTQ+ rights activist for over 35 years. As a bestselling military romance author with a largely socially conservative readership, I worked hard to open my readers’ hearts and minds. I based my methods on all I’d learned from my grassroots work with MassEquality.

After the first round elections, Congressman André Janones created a WhatsApp channel titled “Lula’s Army.” It ballooned to 10 million people following his commands on how to behave online to counteract Meta’s far-right-favouring algorithms. The right knows how to use socials. We must learn, too.

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

In his acceptance speech, Lula says he will work to regulate digital platforms in Brazil. “Digital crimes must be dealt with like real-life crimes.” This comes after Meta directly interfered with the Brazilian elections, favouring Flávio Bolsonaro.

And, most importantly, thanks to the vital mobilisation of young people. Students took to the streets the day after the first round elections, kickstarting massive movements that saw the largest public demonstrations in Brazil since the days of Diretas Já at the end of the military dictatorship.

George Potter 🔶@georgepotter.bsky.social

It's really important to pay attention to the fact that Lula beat the fascist candidate not by compromising and trying to meet fascist voters in the middle, but by sticking to his guns, promising prosecutions for election interference, and mobilising his own voters to turn out in greater numbers.

I'm going to start this thread on the presidential count in Brazil—so people who are interesting can follow along. With 3% of vote counted, Lula up 51.3 to 48.7 (that's a lead of 103K). Pattern in 2022 & in R1 was Lula down big at 1st, then closing gap, but that's shaken up by today's 2-hour delay.
