You should not vote for fascism because fascism is evil. But also, you should not vote for fascism because fascism is stupid.

You guys want to hear a short but adorable story that happened right in front of me at the baggage claim in NYC yesterday? I wasn't part of it and there are bits I didn't catch but holy crap, I can't stop thinking about it.

i don't know the best time to opine about the possibility of rehabilitation and restorative justice and so on but the worst time is 5 minutes after one of your favs is outed doing something terrible

with all respect: i'm losing touch with what AI does because i have no interest in it and it's not my business. nobody worries about me losing touch with developments in particle physics or artificial bull insemination. it's not my fault the richest guys on earth want me to make their toy my life

feels like there is a group of smart and well-intentioned people who long ago made up their minds that AI Is Bad, swore off using it, and now get all their info about AI from each other. not saying they're wrong that ai is bad! but i think they're gradually losing touch with what it is and does

The next day I hear about what happened later, the wild experiences, strengthened bonds or odd opportunities all of which I would have loved to have been part of! But I left, bc for me, leaving was the smart choice, the safe one. But saying why I left makes the men roll their eyes; nothing happened!

Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.

i worry that men think being A Good Guy is dramatically and heroically intervening on behalf of an endangered woman and then being publicly rewarded on a grand scale when actually being A Good Guy is just usually saying, “hey man that’s not funny” or “wow that’s fucked up” and there is no reward

Current news about some asshole with good standardized test scores as a child reminds me of my ongoing hypothesis that you cannot stop someone who participated in the childhood gifted & talented program from telling you that they were involved. No, not even if you frame it like this, like a trap.

I am beginning to think that, however valuable such a program is in theory (kids who need a faster pace SHOULD THEORETICALLY be supported) it does nothing but harm to the actual and ongoing psychology of the person.

(The midterms would feel extremely important---except that I no longer feel that getting those seats to Democrats will mean anything gets done. I keep seeing the CURRENTLY SEATED DEMOCRATS doing nothing. So.)

I have now watched a lot of these "it's not your body, it's the clothes" reels, and what I have learned is that it is 100% an artificial angling of the model's body toward the camera to create an illusion. I'd like to see the models stand with the same posture for both the Cute and Uncute clothes.

Furthermore, the model often is shown in, for example, huge floppy sunhat, huge sunglasses, and pointy red slingback heels. My friend, how does this outfit look and feel in the frozen-foods aisle of the grocery store?

I can for sure try big wide baggy pants and a lil top and a flowy overshirt, and it will 100% not look like that on me unless I stand in a weird bent-back posture with one leg angled out and one arm angled up---and I can tell that's the case, because that's the ONLY way the model stands.

I think a good fundraising idea is: you bid for the right to listen to NPR reporters, secretly recorded, reacting candidly off-air to the stories they have to report. Like "Oh my f'ing god for the love of 8 pound 6 ounce baby Jesus what the actual f is this," etc., but in their NPR voices

Whoopsie, I'm mistaken: it was a collapsed menu. If you expand it, there are SEVENTEEN male artists, plus Georgia O'Keeffe.

Look instead under "Popular Artists," and nine of the ten are male, and the tenth is Georgia O'Keeffe

This thread. I had the 1st step done, but not the second (hidden) step.

2. The Hidden Switch Turning off the first setting isn't enough. Most people stop there. On the same settings page: Google Workspace smart features → Manage Workspace smart feature settings → Turn off both checkboxes → Save. Both settings need to be turned off.

Anyway I personally think that one thing I want my elected officials to perform is that EVERY TIME they are given the option, they should vote against fascism. Not just some of the time. Every time.
