Bulk Power / Energy Systems + NERC's Reliability

1.9K followers537 following1.9K posts

In Montreal this week, EU + Canada are to announce the conduct of "a long-term study on the possibilities for exporting liquefied gas from Canada to the EU". As for today, "there are almost no LNG exports from Canada to the EU, and the EU gets 62 percent of its LNG from the United States."

Mens det råder usikkerhet om Norge kommer på innsiden av viktige EU-tiltak, ligger Canada an til å få en egen rolle i det europeiske samarbeidet.

I had a fun change of audience today, talking to my kids’ primary school about where our energy comes from. I showed them the super book written by my friend @willmcdowall.bsky.social, and we brainstormed the brilliant jobs they could do when they’re older to help protect the planet.

Recent NYISO planning reports show narrowing reliability margins, rising demand, and resources that have supported reliability are leaving the system. This moment demands nimble planning and wholesale electricity markets that can attract new generation. www.nyiso.com/-/what-new-y...

The administration wants more AI and less transmission. Pick one. Cancellation of Lake Erie–Canada Corridor = 1,000 MW of import capability PJM won't have, while computational load growth is a major strain on capacity margins.

Datasentre knyttet til teknologiselskaper sluker opptil en tredel av strømmen i Irland. Samtidig ligger landet dårlig an til å nå klimamål. Det må stilles strengere krav til datasentrene, mener analytiker Matt O’Neill.

Trump posted that scenario RCP8.5 no longer being plausible is an admission that the IPCC was "WRONG! WRONG! WRONG!". That's of course incorrect and also ironic, since RCP8.5 envisioned a very Trumpian future. It's also a bit of good news, as I explore for @climateconnections.bsky.social (🧵 1/7)
