My family found a home here after fleeing the pogroms in Ukraine. This country accepted us as refugees when we had nothing except the shirts on our backs. We've seen what can happen when we don't speak up about the dangers — it's time to raise the alarm now.

We made a deliberate choice as a nation, until now, not to have a police state. We siloed off federal data and put in place laws, regulations, policies and internal norms to prevent the federal government from putting together everything it knows about you into one place. Trump is ending all that.

I don't understand how some folks are unable to see that the illegal disappearing of people is a class issue. The wealthy and well-connected get due process. The rest of us don't. This is part of the oligarchy, not a distraction from it.
