We, internationally, need to do exactly what the Brazilians did and lead by example with: 1) Block all far right figures/accounts 2) Never share a far right account even to dunk on them 3) Never reply to a far right account even to dunk on them Completely cut their algorithmic advantage

A wrong lesson to take from the Brazilian elections is that voting can defeat fascism. That's not true at all. Democracy is an incredibly frail system and the US almost took over the country through it. ORGANIZED PEOPLE DEFEATED FASCISM

It's another day, so let's talk about this. First of all, Lula didn't win the election alone. He won because more than half of the country FREAKED THE FUCK OUT and built a popular movement that organized several actions both irl and online.

A new survey of 1,000 American adults found that the strongest supporters of transgender sports bans are not the people who admire women most: they are the people who hold the most hostile views about women. www.helenwebberley.com/news/transge...

Bolsonaro had corrupt media on his side, Meta interference on his side, US propaganda operations, and his party's officials actively sabotaging public transport in Lula strongholds to prevent turnout. Yet he was still beaten by the power of voter turnout.

Taylor Rose reposted

It's really important to pay attention to the fact that Lula beat the fascist candidate not by compromising and trying to meet fascist voters in the middle, but by sticking to his guns, promising prosecutions for election interference, and mobilising his own voters to turn out in greater numbers.

People abroad don't understand the level of interference Meta & bots had in these elections. 5 days before the election a far-right politician posted a fake news video that got 157 MILLION views on Instagram in 24hs. For reference, GTA 6's reveal trailer got 90 million views on YouTube in 24hs.

Viscerally upset by the Beth Upton stuff. They won't be satisfied until they have hounded a woman – who the tribunal explicitly found had done nothing wrong – to her death. Btw the "incident" in Australia is that a patient worried she *might* be forced to be treated by her. She of course wasn't.

the handful of die-hard anti-trans voters that exist are going to vote GOP no matter what. so this ad will not pick up a single new voter. all it does is further disenfranchise trans ppl – a marginalized group MAGA hates. this is a pro-MAGA ad & Turek is furthering MAGA's cause by airing it

Erin Reed@erininthemorning.com

Josh Turek of Iowa, Democrat, comes out with one of the worst anti-trans ads yet. Not only is it an anti-sports ad, it proposes a ban on federal funding for gender affirming care. That would hit all medicaid and medicare patients, and any ACA federally-subsidized plans as well. Horrific.

I'm going to point out that Jesse Singal has a very public track record of being intensely, specifically cruel to individuals, specifically the trans people who criticize him, whom he has hounded to their workplaces, harassed online, and (at times) successfully gotten fired from their jobs

every now & then someone on the anti-trans side will get cold feet about how openly ugly it's all getting—they want to keep the image of a nice, sensible centrist but it's never enough for them to get off the train

This is similar to the way that anti-sex-work feminists have historically stood to gain cushy jobs in policy around border control and policing spheres through their feminist practices against minoritised women. These things are conflicts over status and positioning within hierarchies of oppression

Jo Rowling's accusation of elitism is a bit like the way some people who are pieces of shit like to say "you think you are better than me" indignantly to justify being pieces of shit. I don't think we should read much more than that We are better than her personally. We're not elite, the bar is low

Taylor Rose reposted

Also, when she says “elitist”, with “the correct superior beliefs” etc, to her it’s the outrage at the fact These People think theyre morally superior to her. It maddening to her that she is seen as evil and people side with trans people. It ~feels~ like oppression to her to be judged as immoral

Rose Schmits@roseschmits.bsky.social

There is a desperate mad conspiratorial aspect to it all, like Joanne truly believes it, its not a cynical propaganda ploy, she is rabid scratching at the walls trying to make sense of why most people dont agree with her

Trans people are a materially real category of person whether you like it or not, and no amount of navel-gazing word games will change the fact that the punishment society levels at those who declare their belonging to that category is blatantly unjust.

Taylor Rose reposted

I do think that a major failure point of a lot of mainstream trans activism is the focus on responding to attacks on trans people in the same arena that those attacks are being made, i.e., indulging the notion that this is a philosophical debate over gender metaphysics and trying to win that one.

"Which categories of people are allowed to use what bathrooms" is a debate wholly disconnected from the material reality that anti-trans sentiment is making public bathrooms less safe for real trans people on the ground in real life. "Allowed" doesn't factor into it, that's not how it works.

One thing they like to leave out is half the time their kids are fucking 35 and gave them repeated warnings about their abysmal behaviour and bigotry. But your property doesn't get to say "enough" or "no", and they truly believe they have an intrinsic right to their children and grandchildren.
