My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

There should be at least three more esses in “this,” out of respect to De Niro’s delivery.

Farewell to Eva Marie Saint. ❤️

DISGUST IS THE APPROPRIATE RESPONSE TO MOST SITUATIONS

LA is HOT. But does it have to be this hot? Did you know shade from a single tree can drop temps by 20° or more? Yet working-class neighborhoods like South LA, East LA, and the Valley get the least tree coverage and bear the brunt of extreme heat. Let's finally cool things down for everyone.

The problem isn’t that they’re moving past it—it’s that they’re trying to rehabilitate it. Would be better for everyone if people who don’t want to engage with the facts just talked about the play on the field and left it at that.

By moving to the “center,” Democrats have failed to fight the forces that led us to Donald Trump: widening inequality, economic insecurity, and the unchecked political power of corporations and the rich. Political centrism is nonsense. There is no middle ground between democracy and oligarchy.

At least he made Robert Kraft happy

Worth noting, as Macklemore was banned by NFL owners in what will be dubbed "fighting antisemitism", that Kanye, who - sold merch with swastikas - said on Alex Jones that he idolizes Hitler - tweeted he was "going Defcon 3 on Jewish people" is currently on a multi-city tour of NFL stadiums

Cassandra Wilson was one of our most gifted vocalists, just an unreal talent. Here is my obituary for NPR Music. (I believe I’ll also be on the broadcast later this evening.)

We join the rest of the world in mourning the passing of entertainment icon Dolly Parton ❤️

Some people are so universally beloved that I think we shouldn’t be told when they die. Let us figure it out eventually but never receive confirmation. We should always be able to idly speculate that somehow there’s a chance they *could* still be alive

Pee Wee Herman & Dolly Parton singing a duet? Here ya go...

one of the great anti-nostalgia songs: the old times are gone, thank god. www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTuv...

The first Dolly Parton song to come to my mind upon learning of her death is maybe the first one I ever loved: "Kentucky Gambler."

Any candidate supporting this merger should definitely not be Mayor of Los Angeles. Vote for Nithya Raman this fall! www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/bus...

Of course animals have souls

This is the story of a con artist—helped along by Karen Bass—who promised a world-class LA jazz festival, then failed to apply for permits, ignored public safety costs, and finally cancelled the event & never paid the artists (who had clauses in their contracts to not perform elsewhere for 30 days).

NEW: As Boyle Heights warehouse fire burned, then-Bass advisor Yusef Robb remained in the mayor's press office's internal WhatsApp groups even after he started doing crisis PR for Lineage. lamaterial.com/p/bass-yusef...

Albert Ayler was born 90 years ago on this date. "Our Prayer/Spirits Rejoice," from 1966. He was only 30 then, with a handful of years left. an incredible performance. www.youtube.com/watch?v=PmkZ...

Mamdani's revolutionary idea that has entrenched power scared is that he wants to a.) listen to people and b.) help them.

My brother, if we win the Democratic Party primaries then we ARE the Democratic Party

New York City voters seemed energized by victories from Brad Lander, Darializa Chevalier, and Claire Lopez. But in this small diner roughly 75 miles outside of Topeka, news of the results was not welcomed as warmly

I really underestimated how long “Who Let the Dogs Out” would stick around

Ok but I’ll for sure never live to see the Jets win the championship

Only way to express it !

I just wish Charles Oakley had been there to see that

BREAKING NEWS: Wildly unpopular president met with "thunderous boos" from thousands of onlookers.

The final score of the last Knicks-Spurs NBA Finals game at MSG (1999) was 78-77; with four minutes left in the 3rd, tonight’s crowd has already seen more scoring than that one did.

Nithya Raman will advance to the November election in the Los Angeles mayoral race, CNN's Decision Desk projects, after overtaking Spencer Pratt for second place as more votes were counted in the days after the June 2 primary. https://cnn.it/4vCmOIo

RIP James Blood Ulmer

Yooooo remember a couple years ago when those three LA city council members were caught on tape saying a ton of insanely racist stuff and conspiring to gerrymander another council member’s district? That other council member was Nithya Raman. The voting bloc they were trying to split? Renters.
