That’s also why Vivek isn’t exactly lying when he says he didn’t mean to say Acton lied about being raped as a child. He doesn’t think she lied; he thinks that being raped disqualifies her from office, because she belongs to the class of people power is wielded against, not the class that wields it.

I don’t think this is exactly what’s going on, or all that’s going on. It’s not that Republicans are constructing an elaborate psychological defense against evidence that Trump is a rapist. It’s that they like that he’s a rapist, and they like rape: it enacts the power of the strong over the weak.

Julian Sanchez@normative.bsky.social

The vile attacks on Amy Acton need to be seen in the context of a party that *needs* people to believe women fabricating sexual assaults is common as rainwater. Because it’s pretty much the only way to evade the conclusion that the president is a rapist.

Assaults are literally filmed or documented via text and no rapists or physical assaulters get arrested bc it’s not enough. But a black infant is murdered for false accusations of theft.

I need people to understand this selective good ole boy justice — the kind that protects abusers, rewards impunity, and openly flouts rule of law and equal protection under it — is Jim Crow shit, practically speaking. It's how Jim Crow terrorism FLOURISHED. Trump broadened the acceptable targets.

I rewatched the hbo doc about Elizabeth Holmes and they were listing ethically dubious Silicon Valley ventures that could harm people, like Theranos. And they showed footage of early Waymo’s.

This is inspiring in the way that kids running a lemonade stand to pay for their friend's chemotherapy is inspiring: the kids are amazing but they should never have to do this. if this inspires you at all, let it inspire you to create a real right to vote so they can just vote on campus.

“You suspect supporting the world’s most ignorant racist venal and corrupt man was a mistake? He might not be helping you as promised? Oh, do you think so, doctor? The anvil you’re using as a life preserver isn’t floating? The magic beans you bought didn’t grow a bean stalk to the clouds? Get OUT.”

i'm definitely pro-abortion.

Dr Elisabeth Kosters@elisabethkosters.bsky.social

No, Marjory, you’re not “pro-life”, you prefer to deny a woman to decide over her own body. Rep Ilhan Omar isn’t “pro-abortion”, she defends a woman’s right to decide over her own body. Nobody, literally nobody, is “pro-abortion”. Abortion is sometimes the best decision, no matter how conflicted.

I do not think being a Summers helps. If anything, the opposite.

This is also just empirically untrue as a matter of reading consumption: women do, in fact, read books by men. It’s men who do not read books by women. I suspect the reason is not “biological.”

I’m ok. Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement. For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation. I will not be silenced.

I could be wrong but pointing out that Republicans are, in fact, Nazis, and then explaining in detail why they are Nazis, might be an effective line of attack!

And it is worth trying to avoid getting covid. I know that it’s near impossible for people with kids, or live in congregate housing, people with abusive spouses & abusive employers, a whole lot of factors. But take the steps you can when you can. Mask in an n95 or similar when you can. It ads up.

The AI industry wants you to say "the AI just did that thing on its own!" Like, United Health's AI that's denying a shitload of claims with a 90% error rate? They wanted you to think it's just the AI.

This seems like a very prudent course of action for the WHCA. I am not sanguine they will do any of this. bsky.app/profile/froo...

Trump treats WH reporters like shit. They should respond in kind. No more deference. Talk back to him. Tell him he just lied, and didn’t answer the question. Correct him. Confront him with reality. Ask him why he surrounds himself with sycophants. Ask him if he’s lying or just crazy.
