Almost one year ago today I traumatized Verge readers by recommending The Body's I’ve Seen All I Need to See. I needed something equally upsetting to recommend this spooky season. Please enjoy Scott Walker's The Drift.

Walker’s 2006 album is unsettling, bizarre, and the perfect way to kill a party. www.theverge.com/entertainmen...

New: We found cops who kept using Flock to spy on women after they left the force. One used it for five years after retirement, tracking his wife during a custody battle. Another ran searches while he was suspended (and later fired) after killing a 15-year-old boy. Free to read: wapo.st/3UEwWU7

wapo.stTheir police jobs ended. They kept using Flock’s vast surveillance network.Flock employees urged the company to adopt stronger security after a 2024 breach. The company continued to allow practices that left its network vulnerable to unauthorized users.

If you spend any time on r/synthesizers or watch a lot of synth videos on YouTube, you’ve probably noticed the explosion of custom firmware for hardware synthesizers, samplers, and grooveboxes. What unites many of them is that they were made possible by increasingly sophisticated vibe-coding tools.

We’re back with our second story about how Trump’s purge of the FBI killed a sweeping bribery probe in D.C. This time, we take you to South Carolina, where two powerful politicians escaped scrutiny: Sen. Lindsey Graham and Rep. James Clyburn. THREAD 👇

AI has made it trivial to whip up custom firmware for your favorite synth. In the last couple of months there's been more mods than I can count for over a dozen different instruments and there's no sign it's slowing down any time soon.

Continuing our series of spooky season recs with this lesser-known George A Romero flick that mixes feminism, witchcraft, and exploitation film vibes.

After inventing the modern zombie, Romero made a feminist film about a suffering house wife turning to witchcraft. www.theverge.com/entertainmen...

I legit thought the Nanomatte display on the Alexa Tablet 12 Pro was a cardboard printout shoved in a dummy unit at first.

The Alexa line is also Amazon’s first tablet to run full-fledged Android with access to the Play Store. www.theverge.com/tech/1007473...

I find the idea that Teenage Engineering could stop making synths hard to swallow. But it would also be the ultimate troll from the company that sold a $1,600 folding table.

The first of my spooky season-themed weekend recs, which are, to be fair, not terribly different from my normal recs.

If Trent Reznor studied musical theater instead of computer engineering NIN might have sounded like Prick. www.theverge.com/entertainmen...

Drums that Knock are basically inescapable if you dabble at all in making electronic music.

I've had Pat Benatar's Invincible stuck in my head all day. (I just watched the Legend of Billie Jean on Monday.) But for some reason it keeps morphing into Sheryl Crow's Soak Up the Sun.

The White House Press Corps should've walked out as soon as the Trump regime banned the Associated Press for calling the Gulf of Mexico the "Gulf of Mexico." That was Feb 15, 2025. The first month of Trump Term II. Not surprising that abandoning principles for weak acquiescence led to more abuse.
