Oregon Secretary of State Tobias Read@orsecretaryread.bsky.social

Today marks 1 week from the Primary Election & the last day to mail your ballot worry-free. With recent changes to the USPS, we recommend using a drop box to return your ballot. If you need to use the mail, go into the Post Office and ask them for a hand postmark. Learn more: OregonVotes.gov/Dropbox

If you're not wrapping colored bench tape around your fav pipette and labeling it with vague threats of cursing whoever steals it are you even working in a lab.

Okay, I guess the plan is to rewatch two episodes of Widow’s Bay each night this week, and then my new-to-me movie on Halloween will be Black Phone 2.

I’m still stuck on Nathan Fillion loving Widow’s Bay because he thinks it’s about a “normal guy” having to deal with being surrounded by “idiots” and “morons”, which sort of suggests he actually only watched the first episode.

It’s confounding because if anything it’s about a smug elitist who doesn’t listen to the people with lived experience.

I would like the AI bubble to collapse soon because I really need a proper desk chair and I’d like to get a super-cheap refurbed Aeron from an office liquidator.

And now back to my full time job, texting the word "stop" to every living Democrat.

There should be an oval in every race on the ballot that you can fill in addition to the one next to the candidate you voted for that just indicates you are “meh” on them.

Evan Urquhart@evanurquhart.bsky.social

I really do think you should vote. Your actual vote is secret, but the fact that you voted is not. Being a regular voter means campaigns will try to win you over. The more trans people are regular voters the more likely it is that candidates will worry about needing to win our votes.

Elections offices would have to report the numbers of people who voted for a candidate but also marked them as “meh”, in addition to reporting the numbers of people who *only* marked “meh”.

I really do not understand this, but it continues. Once again a completely different person. Is there a signup sheet for frustrating me?

This is so autistically frustrating. For a month and a half I came to the library every day at two. Maybe twice was my preferred chair not available. In the past two weeks it’s only been available on two days. Not even by one person who picked the same schedule and seat. Always a different person.

The French mathematician Nicolas de Condorcet was a passionate believer in democracy. He also discovered a frustrating paradox within it. Now, mathematicians have found that this centuries-old voting paradox has a strange topological shape. www.quantamagazine.org/how-voting-i...

A wild humpback whale has had its heartbeat recorded for the first time. Ashley Blawas and colleagues used suction-cup tags to track blue and humpback whales through complete dives and feeding lunges. Oceanographic buff.ly/WzPvwud #ShareGoodNewsToo

A new survey of 1,000 American adults found that the strongest supporters of transgender sports bans are not the people who admire women most: they are the people who hold the most hostile views about women. www.helenwebberley.com/news/transge...

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

Okay, this stupid origin day can fuck off for another year. Looming is the next annual hurdle to clear: New Year’s.

An aging John Houseman once mistook me for the son of the producing director of the theater I grew up around.

I live in a rural town and, like, I don't know how to tell you this, but the girls play on the boys team and vice versa all the time because otherwise we don't have enough players for a game and it's literally always fine so stop being weirdos about kids sports and just let trans kids play.

It’s time for my SNAP periodic report. Inexplicably, the state system claims that I have been in drug or alcohol treatment since last year. I have never said that. It isn’t true. I don’t even drink anymore let alone take any drugs. I have no idea how this data made its way into the system.

The state’s birthday present to me apparently is now I have to figure out if any other data it has about me is wrong, and where that data came from.

I am relentlessly methodical about these forms. It absolutely was not some sort of user error on my part. This is batshit.
